How gimmicky is the word - "FemTech", why no MenTech? overheard two men discussing in metro the other day. 🤔
Other than the classic whataboutery at display (which is SO annoying) 😒
Women have been historically underrepresented in healthcare. Until 1993, women were largely excluded from clinical trials and research for new medications. 💉
This led to a huge gap in our understanding of female physiology, how drugs affect women and the impact of dosage on side effects.
Researchers analyzed studies in which women and men were given the same drug dosage and found that in over 90 percent of cases, women experienced stronger side effects than men. Cue, hormones. 🧬
Thankfully, digital solutions have emerged in the last few years aiming to plug in the research and data gap.
This is the field of Femtech. This is why women are taking the charge of their bodies, health and overall wellbeing. This is why it needs 'funding'. 💰
From menstruation to menopause, such little awareness and access. Practically 70+ years of our lives, we're dictated by how hormones play in our body during different phases, yet this conversation remains stigmatised for even women to discuss among themselves.
Gladly, things are changing. 💪
FemTech isn't just a fancy word. FemTech solutions provide women with personalized data and insights into our bodies. FemTech isn't about creating a divide; it's about addressing a historical imbalance. 🔄
Shoutout to all FemTech founders - men and women who are bridging this gap and empowering women. 🙌
