Where else can we confess our love to women entrepreneurs better than in Paris? 😍🇫🇷 The city of love is officially waiting for us next week, as the Aurora Tech Award will ultimately join one of the biggest events in the industry, Women In Tech Global Summit, hosted by WOMEN IN TECH ® Global 🔥😱. Get ready for a little bragging: it’s not going to be just a regular visit as a guest (although even this type of participation would be enormous). Our representative and gender mainstreaming advocate Maria Rudnik will have a fireside chat moderated by the WITG former Global Program Director and Essence App CEO and Founder Elina Vale 😎💁♀️ The Topic is “How to break barriers for female founders”. Within the chat, there will be a conversation dedicated to the underrepresentation of female founders, especially in LATAM, Africa, and Asia. We believe we can help overcome all the obstacles and crush that glass ceiling 💪. Additionally, on the same day of May 7th, head of the Aurora Tech Award Ekaterina Smirnova will judge a pitch competition that will take place right after the above-mentioned fireside chat. World, hold on! We’re about to enter the networking game like queens 💃👑. 📅May 7th, Women In Tech Global Summit ✔️Fireside chat: How to break barriers for female founders? ✔️Pitching competition Are you happening to visit the Women in Tech Summit? I recently came across an article in The Guardian that left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. The piece highlights how women’s health tech, or FemTech is less likely to receive funding if a woman is part of the founding team. Even more frustrating, when women use phrases like “women’s rights” or “empowerment” in pitches, they are penalized, while men using the same words are rewarded with increased investment. As a female founder in the FemTech space, this is a harsh reminder that we still have a long way to go. It’s infuriating that even in sectors that predominantly serve women, we face structural bias that prevents our businesses from receiving the same opportunities as our male counterparts. This isn’t just an issue for founders like me, it’s a massive barrier to innovation in a field that could revolutionise women’s health. It’s time for things to change. Investors need to recognise the value we bring—not just in terms of social impact, but also in economic returns. We need more trust, more funding, and more support for female founders in this space. Yes , we’re still celebrating International Women's Day because the job’s not done. Women earn less than men for the same jobs, women are not present in the boardroom despite being as qualified as men and the state of women entrepreneurship is poor, let alone % of Investment in female/non-binary led startups, which is declining . And no - I don’t represent an anti-men movement. I - and everything I represent - rely on all our men friends who work so hard to mentor and coach and knowledge share and support and encourage and much more to help unlock ALL talent. This is not about women vs men. Can we not work together to support ALL talent - irrespective of gender, colour, background, orientation. It just so happens that women are the largest underrepresented group. So this week is #iwd2024. And tomorrow that’s what we’re focused on. Empowering women to be what they already are - talented and empowered. But let’s not forget. It’s not about your gender, colour, background, orientation, who you love .. for god’s sake. Don’t judge a book by its cover . It’s about what you bring to the table ! We need diverse ideas and innovations to solve complex global problems. Come on..let’s not keep having the same conversation. It’s obvious. Can’t wait to meet you all tomorrow. "My Inspirational Circle" Cheers to #Abundance #Mindset- Success is not a limited resource; the more we support each other, the more we all benefit. I recently had the privilege of speaking with Ayumi Moore Aoki, the visionary founder of WOMEN IN TECH ® Global - a powerful global community empowering women in technology. Ayumi shared her deeply personal journey that fueled her passion for #GenderEquality. From her childhood experiences of fighting for equal rights as a girl, to the uphill battles she faced as a female entrepreneur and mother of four, Ayumi's determination to create a more equitable world for all women was palpable. In 2017, she was shocked to discover the growing gender gap in tech was actually widening after decades of progress. This galvanized her to launch Women in Tech - providing not just a supportive network, but concrete initiatives for education, business, funding and advocacy on a global scale. Ayumi's mission resounds with the core principles I outline in my book 'Trailblazer Founders' - the path to lasting change requires: 1. An unwavering commitment to take action, not just lament the status quo. 2. Rejecting a scarcity mindset, and uplifting others on the journey. 3. Creating safe, supportive communities that inspire and enable growth. 4. Legacy and Impact, Focus on how we want the world to be and work towards leaving a positive legacy. I'm inspired by trailblazers like Ayumi who turn their struggles into strength, and use that power to knock down barriers for the next generation. The world needs more of this boldness and abundance mindset to create lasting progress. I recently met Some other inspiring Women in Tech® Switzerland and MassChallenge who are contributing such wonderful efforts to Breaking barriers in the country! AI for Humanity ... I joined a group of passionate and enterprising female founders to discuss the topic of "AI for Humanity" on 4 September. This evening program was led by Siok Siok Tan and Chieh Suang K. ... I heard many comments and feedback on the current deployment of AI apps and chatbots. I reflected on my first Lisp program on NLP in 1987 and the projects on Expert systems between 1988-1991, as well as my functions in the Japan-Singapore AI Centre until 1993. Fast forward 30 years, there are so much excitement about the use AI technologies. However, how do we view the role AI apps in our human environment - can we expect a human-AI symbiosis role, where humans teach AI and AI teaches the humans? Yet, this reminds us of an advice by Eliezer Yudkowsky: "By far, the greatest danger of AI is that people conclude too early that they understand (what) it (is)." They is so much hype about AI that there is now a degree of "over expectations" ... if AI apps appear in a human suit, and it is an "artificial human - AIH" whom we hire, then how would we expect it to deliver. Do we assess AIH based on their education background skillsets, softskills etc etc.? ... So are we expecting the chatbots to deliver better outcome over the human performance? Amara's Law reminds us of another advice: "“We tend to overestimate the effect of a technology in the short run and underestimate the effect in the long run.” - Roy Amara. Amara's Law reminds us of the importance to take a long-term perspective when assessing new technologies. By staying informed, patient, and critical, we can better navigate the world of technology and make wiser decisions for our future. So, perhaps before we beat up the effectiveness of AI technology too quickly, we should give AI a little more time ... I have waited > 35 years, and will continue to await how AI can change our quality of life. APARA Asia AIBotics Bryon T. James (Kayliang) Ong
