The Association of Cancer Care Centers (ACCC) greatly appreciates the House Committee on Ways and Means taking this important step toward passing the bipartisan Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act (H.R. 2407). We thank Representatives Jodey C. Arrington (R-TX) and Terri Sewell (D-AL) for their tireless advocacy on this important legislation. ACCC members are all too familiar with the toll cancer takes on patients when diagnosed at a late stage. Far too many patients have died because their cancer wasn’t caught early enough. Late-stage cancer diagnosis is often avoidable, and if cancers are caught earlier and proper treatment is administered, outcomes are typically more successful. This legislation will expand seniors’ access to advanced cancer screenings through the Medicare program – enabling earlier detection and improving outcomes. #ACCC #ACCCBuzz #MCEDAct #MCED #HR2407

World Lung Cancer Day was firmly established in 2012 by the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS) in collaboration with the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST). It is annually observed on August 1st to effectively raise awareness about lung cancer and its significant impact on individuals and communities worldwide. The day boldly aims to educate the public about the critical risks, symptoms, and treatments of lung cancer, and to provide unwavering support to those affected by the disease. #WLCD24#WorldLungCancerDay#UnitedForLungCancer#StrongerTogether#Veterans#VAAwareness#Support#Lungs#VeteransHealth#HealthyLungs#Awareness#TakeaMoment#internalmedicine#medical

Today is #WorldCancerDay In 2011, blood cancer came into our lives. As a care partner, it's so important to remember that cancer impacts the whole family. I am so proud of my daughters who also help advocate to improve the lives of patients and their families. The reasons we advocate In Ireland.... 🩸10% of cancer diagnosed is a blood cancer. 🩸less than 2% of cancer patients access clinical trials. 🩸Drug approval takes two years longer in Ireland compared to other EU countries meaning patients lose out on access to novel therapies 🩸Funding for the Cancer Strategy was cut in the last Budget 🩸not all cancer patients get a medical card 🩸Recently one in three ICS palliative care nurses stated that patients could not afford to heat their homes. 🩸Blood cancer patients are high risk of shingles but the vaccine to protect them costs between six and eight hundred euro. They have to pay out of pocket. They are also high risk to Covid with no plan to protect them in healthcare settings. #CloseTheCareGap Colm Henry Bernard Gloster Averil Power https://clli.ie/

Two weeks ago I was in parliament to speak about the physical and emotional impact of breast cancer recurrence. Approx 30% risk up to 20+ years later (1:5 within 10 years - BMJ report) with #breastcancer will experience a recurrence of their disease, which is fatal when this has progressed to incurable #metastaticbreastcancer, and the risk never completely goes away. Going forward, there is an urgent need to improve the management of both the risk and incidence of breast cancer recurrence as part of a greater focus on the later stages of the breast cancer pathway. There is a particular need for: • Improved data collection to better understand the true burden of recurrence and inform enhanced service planning • Wider access to mental health support to help breast cancer patients manage both the fear and a diagnosis of recurrence • Better conversations between patients and HCPs about the risk of recurrence • Increased up take of the red-flag infographics across cancer alliances and hospital trusts to enable rapid diagnosis and referral of recurrent breast cancer patients • Mandatory guidance which ensures that every hospital trust has a specialist metastatic breast cancer nurse #DarkerPink #MetastaticMay #datasaveslives
