In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we spotlight the critical need for sexual health education tailored for Hispanic college students. 🥳 Talk About it Texas - Campus Conversations Program Manager, Dr. Paris Rangel’s dissertation reveals the TAIT Program significantly improved knowledge on STI/HIV transmission and contraception effectiveness, but challenges remain. In South Texas, 43% of young adults are uninsured, contributing to increased rates of STIs and HIV due to limited healthcare access. Alarmingly, nearly 50% of sexually active young adults aged 18-19 do not use condoms, resulting in higher rates of unintended births compared to other regions in Texas. As Dr. Paris Rangel emphasizes, "You are the future leaders of your community. Your sexual health is about understanding your body and making informed choices." Let’s empower Hispanic youth with the culturally relevant information they deserve—because taking pride in your health is a powerful act of self-love! 💖 #HispanicHeritageMonth #SexualHealth #HealthyFuturesofTexas

Today, our Global Policy Director, Irum Taqi, addressed the UN Commission on Population and Development to call attention to the need for a comprehensive approach to sexual and reproductive health and rights, as articulated by the Guttmacher-Lancet Commission, in accelerating progress toward the vision laid out by #ICPD thirty years ago in Cairo. Since the 1994 Cairo conference, we have seen remarkable gains on #SRHR globally, including on contraception, maternal and newborn health, and HIV/AIDS. Yet progress remains uneven within and across countries. We must also commit to fully tackling neglected issues, including adolescent sexuality, gender-based violence, abortion, infertility and other critical components of SRHR. Read our full statement urging governments to support a comprehensive definition of SRHR: https://lnkd.in/e8HyT2-G #CPD57 #ICPD30

Teenage Health and Access to Reproductive Services Adolescents make up a considerable portion of Somaliland's population. The general development of the country depends on their health. Teenagers in good health have a higher chance of developing into successful adults who strengthen their communities' social and economic relationships. On the other hand, health problems throughout adolescence can have negative long-term consequences that prolong cycles of inequality and poverty. Somaliland's Adolescent Health Issues are included: 1. Limited Access to Reproductive Health Services: Reproductive health services are often scarce and unevenly distributed in Somaliland. This lack of access increases the risk of unintended pregnancies, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS. 2. Cultural and Social Barriers: Cultural norms and stigmas around adolescent sexuality pose significant challenges. Discussions about sexual and reproductive health (SRH) are often considered taboo, preventing young people from seeking the information and services they need. Gender norms further restrict girls’ access to health services and information worsening health disparities. In conclusion, informing young people about their reproductive health is critical in preventing sexual assault and the spread of STIs. Comprehensive sexuality education provides adolescents with accurate information about their bodies, relationships, and consent, empowering them to make informed decisions and protect themselves from harm. #Health #Reproductive health #STDs #Adolescent
