With only 3.4% of APS employees identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, it's crucial to underscore the importance of platforms that unite First Nations people. These forums are not just events; they're catalysts for empowerment, dialogue, and leadership that echo the need for inclusivity and representation. The First Nations Women in Leadership Summit in Meanjin (Brisbane) on 22 & 23 May 2024, alongside the First Nations Leadership and Allyship Summit in Ngunnawal Country (Canberra) from 30 April to 1 May 2024, serve as pivotal gatherings. They bring to the forefront the resilience, wisdom, and leadership of First Nations communities, amplifying voices that are often marginalised. Highlighting the significance of such assemblies, a Director from NDIS once reflected: "When you bring Indigenous people together, it fills people's cups and it's a safe place to talk about our challenges, barriers, and leadership journey." This sentiment encapsulates the essence of these summits - they're more than meetings; they're sanctuaries for shared experiences and mutual growth. We're privileged to spotlight trailblazers like Cathy Freeman, whose Olympic legacy continues to inspire beyond the track, and Professor Marcia Langton, whose advocacy and intellect pave the way for crucial conversations on Indigenous rights and leadership. Join us in celebrating the power and potential of First Nations leadership at these summits. By coming together, we not only honour the contributions of First Nations people but also forge a path towards a more equitable and inclusive future. You can check out a video and both agendas here: https://lnkd.in/gdaS8B63 If you are a First Nations person I would love to connect and if you are an aspiring ally please share this with your network. #FirstNationsLeadership #WomenInLeadership #Allyship #Empowerment #Reconciliation #closingthegap

"Aside from Crown and private utilities, Indigenous communities and businesses are the largest clean energy asset holders, with an equity share or defined benefit agreements in approximately 20% of all clean energy generation infrastructure in Canada. Although the number of projects involving Indigenous partners or leaders is increasing, it may not keep pace with the rapid development needed to meet national generation targets" – ICE Executive Director James Jenkins in an op-ed for TheFutureEconomy.ca.
