I am honored to share that the Neill-Cochran House Museum is the recipient of two awards, the Stewardship Award and the Preservation Award for Restoration, for Reckoning with the Past, the restoration of Austin's last intact slave dwelling, as a part of Preservation Austin's 2024 Preservation Merit Awards!
This project was made possible by the tireless efforts of Dr. Rowena Dasch of the Neill-Cochran House Museum, Dr. Tara Dudley from the University of Texas, and my Fermata team (including Maja Smith of MajaDesign and iZone). This award is a testament to the dedication and commitment of this amazing group of professionals of which I was honored to be a participant.
Join us at the annual Preservation Merit Awards Ceremony, which spotlights visionary approaches to preserving our city’s unique heritage.
The following is a link to Preservation Austin's website for more information about the ceremony in November.

Ten years ago today, I joined 9/11 family members, rescue and recovery workers, and survivors, to dedicate the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. Today it stands as a permanent reminder of those killed, and the service, bravery, and compassion of those who stood together in unity during those dark hours.
The 9/11 Memorial Museum preserves an essential moment in our history for future generations, ensuring that we will never forget. Join me in visiting the #911Museum, which will now offer free admission to New Yorkers on the first Monday of each month beginning June 3.

⭐ National Windrush Museum Signs Historic MOU with University of Greenwich and The University of the West Indies ⭐
The National Windrush Museum (NWM) has taken a monumental step toward advancing #education, cultural #heritage, and historical #research by signing a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Greenwich (UoG) and the University of the West Indies (UWI). Researchers believe they have found the wreck of the HMS Stephen Furness, a ship that’s been lost to the bottom of the Irish sea along with over 100 crew for more than a century, after it was sunk in WWII.
With AHRC funding, the Unpath’d Waters project was able to locate the shipwreck by combining resources and new data through a digital ‘hyper network’, uniting UK’s museums, galleries, libraries and archives.
Professor Christopher Smith, Executive Chair for AHRC shares his thoughts:
“This is a thrilling discovery and a testament to power AHRC aims to unleash by connecting the disparate collections of information and material held by the UK’s various heritage institutions through the Towards a National Collection project.
The exemplary work of the Unpath’d Waters has revealed, at long last, the resting place of over a hundred men who died under tragic circumstances and gives us a tantalising hint at the historical riches concealed within the waters that surround our island.
If the work of Towards a National Collection is already leading to finds this exciting, I cannot wait to see what else it might enable in the future.”
