This is not true - our volunteers do amazing work AFTER disasters, but they also do a lot of work to BEFORE, to mitigate disasters. In 2018, the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) reported that every $1 spent on disaster mitigation by three federal agencies saves society $6. So Team Rubicon is committed to reducing suffering BEFORE, during, and after disasters and crises. Take a couple of minutes to watch the video below of a recently completed fire mitigation operation to see how TR's Greyshirts (volunteers) use the same skills that we use to cut trees and clear debris after a tornado or hurricane, to stop a fire from destroying a community. And support our mission. This story of stopping a fire from reaching a community (or that of building a resilient house, training community members to respond, training exercises....) may not get media attention, but we do it because we want to prevent the media from reporting a family's tragedy. We can't stop a hurricane, but perhaps we can protect a community from fires!
