Career Success
During the "Internship and Workplace Readiness" course , our 4th lecture was about Job search technique, self branding, and networking , presented by Ms Amira Amr, Ms Dina Gheith, Associate CIPD , Ms Nouran Fathy , Ms Farida Hossam , and Ms Rawan Ali , leading employees at PepsiCo.
Few valuable takeaways:
1. Discover Yourself
They encouraged us to:
- Seek Feedback: Understanding our strengths from the perspective of colleagues.
- Align Values and Beliefs: Identifying companies that share our values is important for long-term career satisfaction.
- Identify Competencies:
They explained the importance of knowing our core competencies—those niche skills that make us standout. For example, if you're in finance, analytical thinking and forecasting could be your competencies
2. Navigating the Job Market
- Firstly: define your career goals and what you want to do.
- Secondly research and list the companies you want to work for, especially those that align with your values.
- Thirdly, use different platforms to connect with potential employers.
3. Job search channels
- Networking events and job fairs
- University career services
- Company websites
- Online job portals
- Social media platforms
4. The elevator pitch
Imagine you’re in an elevator with someone, and you only have the time it takes to reach the top floor to tell them about yourself. You need to quickly say who you are, what you’re good at, and what you want to do. It’s like a super-short introduction that helps them understand you before the elevator doors open. In 30-60 seconds. And take care that people form their first impression of others in the first 7 seconds of meeting them. It's not an easy task!
Then, how can you create a good elevator pitch ?!
A. Introduce yourself: keep it brief and to the point
B. Highlight your expertise: explain your expertise, skills, and experience in a way that is relevant to your audience.
C. Communicate your unique value proposition: what sets you apart from others ?! What unique skills or experience fo you bring to the table ?!
D. Provide examples: use specific examples to illustrate your work and its impact. This can help make your pitch memorable and relatable.
E. Communicate goals and objectives: in terms of long and short term plans.
Thank you to the PepsiCo team for sharing their knowledge and experience with us! Each of the speakers had a very interesting experience that motivated all of us! It was a pleasure having you on campus❤️
No, no, no! Don't trade your innocence for a company that sells palm oil + sugar + salt. Working to ruin the health of others is horrifying and shameful. Reflect 💚💚
