Next week, Paper Plus Hornby is holding a huge charity book sale raising funds to support our work at Te Whare Awhero (Hope House). From Thurs 1st to Sun 4th August, they’ll be offering customers a 10% discount on all books sold in store only at Paper Plus Hornby, plus for every book purchased they’ll donate an extra 10% to support our work in the community. So where will those funds raised be going? We’ve worked as a charity in Hornby for more than 30 years, but possibly our most exciting project yet was launched just two years ago - the Longitudinal Whānau Support project (LWS). Through our work providing counselling and programmes in Hornby schools, we’ve worked with many families stuck in cycles of poverty, violence or abuse. And we’ve seen so many Hornby children missing out on opportunities that could help them grow, discover passions and build their confidence – things like arts, sports and cultural experiences. We’ve learned that if we hope to tackle long term, intergenerational problems and provide all Hornby children opportunities to thrive, we need a long term, intergenerational solution, creating layers of support around vulnerable children and bringing opportunities to them. So our LWS project works by: 💞 Connecting with local schools to identify and support isolated and at risk families; 💞 Connecting them with a Whānau Support Worker committed to building a relationship with those families long term, from when their children are aged 5 to aged 20, supporting them throughout and helping them to set and achieve goals for their family. 💞 Creating an Opportunity Hub at the school, connecting the wider community to provide sports, arts or cultural opportunities available to all children at the school. We established the programme two years ago, and are already intensively supporting 10 at-risk Hornby families including 19 children. Our first Opportunity Hub at Gilberthorpe School is providing 15 different opportunities for children at the school – things like a Drama Club, Basketball coaching, Taiaha, Hip Hop, a school garden, a Construction Club, a Lego Club, and opportunity to film and star in their own movie. It’s also provided connections with the wider community – like the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, who have hosted workshops for the kids. To continue this work and expand the programme into more local schools, we can’t rely only on sponsorship or Government grants, which can come and go. We also need the support of our community - people and businesses like Paper Plus Hornby, who are willing to get behind us. To find out more about the LWS programme and how you can be involved, visit https://lnkd.in/gTF7Vb_p And if you’d like to support this work, please come down to Paper Paper Plus Hornby on August 1st-4th, for a three in one win-win-win - supporting a local business, supporting a local charity, and getting a great deal for yourself.

YETIPAUL FOUNDATION - CHILDREN'S DAY 2024 Children are the cornerstone of a society's future. Their well-being directly impacts the social, economic, and cultural health of the community. By investing in children, societies invest in their own continued prosperity and development. Recognizing the vital role children play, the YETIPAUL FOUNDATION is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children through various activities and interventions. In February 2024, we successfully commissioned a solar-powered borehole, benefiting both the children and the broader community. We are also constructing a new toilet facility, set to be completed by June 2024. To honor Children's Day, we will be visiting the students of Oke-Ita Methodist Nursery and Primary School on May 28, 2024. The event will feature various activities designed to encourage fresh perspectives and ideas among children. We believe that fostering creativity and critical thinking can lead to progress and development in various fields. We encourage student volunteers to submit a write-up about their school. Every year, YETIPAUL FOUNDATION is committed to creating a better learning environment and experiences for children living in underprivileged communities. Our Next Challenge: This summer, we are starting a vital refurbishment project for Oke-Ita Nursery and Primary School in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. This school needs urgent attention, and we will be tackling it in stages due to the project's scale and funding needs: Phase 1: Removing the existing roof and other worn structures Phase 2: Replacing the ceiling and roofing Phase 3: Renovating the classrooms Phase 4: Repainting the school building Phase 5: Providing new furniture and school equipment The total cost of the project is estimated at N20 million (£15,000). We welcome contributions from funders and partners to help us achieve this goal. 0125372864 Yeti Paul FOUNDATION Wema Bank, Nigeria https://gofund.me/80f2db0b Donate to Restoration of Oke-Ita Nursery and Primary School, organized by YetiPaul Foundation The Yeti Paul foundation is a charity in Nigeria that aims to ad… YetiPaul Foundation needs your support for Restoration of Oke-Ita Nursery and Primary School gofund.me TOUCH A LIFE, IMPACT GENERATIONS

Sharing a link to a phenomenal grassroots, peer-led organisation compromising of over 11,000 members that I have been involved in for some time - School Can’t Australia. Many know I was appointed to the board late last year to help the organisation transform into an incorporated charity. “School can’t” - not won’t - has always been an issue in Australian schools, but has previously been wrongly framed by professionals as a deliberate and willful act of the child, or even the result of poor parenting. The phenomenon has increased in the past decade, independent of COVID. Attempts by education departments to arrest the issue have failed. Draconian measures - such as fining parents or taking them to court - have exacerbated the problem. Despite being unfunded and peer-led, SCA is leading the way in - correctly - identifying that attendance difficulties are due to the number and intensity of stressors a child faces at school, and is not the result of a deliberate and willful act of the child or poor parenting. In fact - despite enduring significant trauma - most “school can’t” kids still want to be at school. SCA is on a mission to change the narrative, and build capacity in our schools to identify and remove the stressors that children face, so all children can safety be included in, and attend, our schools. Please donate if you can!
School Can’t Australia is currently unfunded. We are run entirely by volunteers. To support our growing parent/carer community of over 11,000 families, we have launched a Go Fund Me page. Your donations will help us cover the management and operational expenses of School Can’t Australia and allow us to pursue more long-term and stable funding sources. Donations will also enable us to develop education resources sharing our group's lived experience knowledge, which will allow us to admit members more quickly and support more parents and carers. Please share this link with your networks. https://lnkd.in/dg6En-W2

Strategic communications and technology professional, collegiate lecturer, and part-time dairy farmer with a passion for cultivating future work and education in rural communities.
Rural schools need our support now more than ever, no matter the the classification be it public, private, independent, or therapeutic. This is especially true I've found in #Vermont. Schools like Compass School VT (https://lnkd.in/eGjfHzVB) in Westminster serve a range of students and communities in southern and southeast parts of this state and neighboring #NewHampshire, and being entirely funded by tuition and town-pay is putting our mission at risk despite the clear need for our talented teachers and student-centered approach to education. “We're at a time when the value of nongovernmental leadership stepping into spaces and demonstrating where progress is possible is going to be incredibly important. There is a lot of incredible work to be done by nongovernmental institutions who want to lead in areas that actually bring people closer together and strengthen communities by narrowing the gaps that exist.” - Daniel Smith (see link for more) As a #CompassVT parent and board member, I see the challenges in providing an enriching learning environment of this one small #ruralschool as representative to all the school classifications found across this state, and while we choose as a school to shine our light more on the success stories of our students, of which there are many, than the challenges I nonetheless feel we're peering in the window from the outside to philanthropic interest and investment. To me, for the programs like VT's Free Degree Promise to be successful the state first must provide each learner an equally free promise to the K12 education that fits to their learning style and modality, setting aside geography and enable town-pay options for all communities equally. Schools of all types indeed are the heartbeat of rural places, and they will provide the workforce and the innovations for the decades that follow, but they need our support in time, talent, and in treasure too.
Appreciate the inquiry from Inside Philanthropy and the comments by my colleague Carolyn Weir on the conditions of rural communities, the role of schools and the need for philanthropy. #vt #freedegreepromise #rural #McClureFoundation The Vermont Community Foundation

Vice President | APAC Head | Global Technology Executive | Regional Sales Leader | Team Builder | Business Developer | Growth Driver | Runner & Cyclist | Singapore PR
** This Christmas, help give the lifelong gift of education for a Child at Street 11 ** At the start of this year, two of my goals for 2023 were: 1) To run and cycle for a combined 8500 kilometres 2) To use my professional expertise and network to help actively support a charitable cause that I was passionate about On the second goal, this year I joined talentTtrust, a volunteer organisation here in Singapore that connects business professionals with non-profit charities, to help provide consulting expertise that creates sustainable and meaningful change. After considering the charitable opportunities that talentTtrust was supporting, I decided to join the Child at Street 11 project, as I have a passion for education. Child at Street 11 is a charity that was established to help provide education for children in families who are unable to afford the typical fees. Their goal is to support children living in highly diverse but inequitable settings, so that they aren’t excluded from building a solid academic foundation in their formative schooling years. The Centre inflows are derived from families paying what they can afford, as well as relying on government grants and raising funds from donors. During this year, myself and our team of mentors have visited the school, met some of the children, and worked with the leadership at Child at Street 11, to develop a fundraising and communications strategy, with our goal being to help ensure that this wonderful facility can remain in operation for future generations of children who need it. We are reaching the end of our project, and the school management will soon be moving to the execution phase of the fundraising strategy, which will involve contacting potential donors to request funds. Back to my first goal of running and cycling for a combined 8500 kilometres this year. Well, we’re in the last month of the year, and in hindsight, my goal may have been a bit… ambitious. I’m still several hundred kilometres away (I had a leg injury in Sept/Oct which slowed me down but has improved since). So here is my request; I’ll commit to doing whatever it takes to clock up the kilometres needed to hit the goal of 8500 by the end of this month. My ask of you, is to please help sponsor me to get there, where every dollar raised will go directly to Child at Street 11 for their fundraising campaign to help keep the school in operation. No donation is too small! Donations will be matched by the Singapore Government. Here is the link to donate (campaign has just been launched), it will be active until January 3, where all proceeds raised will be presented to the school CEO on January 4. https://lnkd.in/gC2G5csW With enormous thanks, from the current and future students of Child At Street 11. (Please like or re-post to help provide further reach for this campaign, thanks!)

Fund Innovation in Education, Please Donate Today! This non-profit organization is deeply meaningful to me, given that my sister is one of the three co-founders of this school, and my niece and nephew are proud attendees. Residing on the small island of Vieques (population 8k), one of Puerto Rico's most underserved municipalities, with an average annual income of just $14k, they are tirelessly working to provide educational resources. Their mission extends beyond the school itself; it also encompasses the 150 children benefiting from the Juntos Vieques after-school program. In September 2022, they achieved a significant milestone by moving into their renovated facility. As they work towards completing the building, they envision a global impact, inviting leaders from around the world to conduct workshops and training sessions. Your contribution is crucial in realizing this vision. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering a donation to make this transformative journey possible. Be the Change: help us reach our fundraising goal to provide scholarships to inspire learning in more students in 2024. Ignite Innovation: At Green School Vieques, students don't just learn; they innovate! Through project-based learning, they delve into robotics / programing, board game development, and entrepreneurship. Help inspire the change our education system needs. Fostering Stewardship: Green School shapes future leaders committed to a sustainable future. From eco-friendly initiatives to real-world environmental impact, we're creating a generation that cares about our planet. Unleashing Creativity: These children don't just dream; they bring ideas to life. Your support ensures continued experiences, preparing them for the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Community Impact: Beyond the Green School, Juntos Vieques after school program is currently impacting 150 children within the local community. Nurturing Tomorrow's Leaders: Your donation directly impacts students' lives, providing resources for technology, materials, and experiential learning. Let's empower these young minds for a brighter future. How You Can Help: Make a tax-deductible donation today! Share this post to spread the word. Every contribution, big or small, brings us closer to nurturing the next generation of leaders. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey!
