A new Wolters Kluwer Health survey¹ released today finds that 40% of U.S. physicians are ready to use generative AI (GenAI) this year when interacting with patients at the point-of-care. The findings reflect a rapid acceptance of the new technology more broadly, with 68% saying they have changed their views over the last year, and are now more likely to think that GenAI would be beneficial to healthcare. A recent article in Northwestern University's Medill on the Hill highlights the potential of AI technology to improve health equity – so long as certain issues, such as undesirable bias, are addressed first. Digital Diagnostics’ founder, Michael D. Abramoff, MD, PhD, is well aware of concerns regarding the equity of healthcare AI. He co-authored a paper showing that undesirable bias can be addressed, and AI can be used to improve health inequity. “We have to get it right from the start and what we show is that this is entirely feasible,” Dr. Abramoff said. In a Wolters Kluwer survey, when physicians were asked if they believe patients would be concerned about the use of #genAI in a diagnosis, only one out of five physicians said yes. But when they were asked directly, four out of five Americans said they would be concerned. That’s a considerable gap in readiness that the industry should acknowledge. It corresponds with ZS’s #FutureofHealth data that found among the general public, roughly 6 in 10 respondents (outside of China) distrust AI. https://lnkd.in/ehFw-JPD
