☣️ Treating Urban Runoff Urban Rainshell – Nature based solution for stormwater treatment Urban Runoff water is not clean. It contains a variety of contaminants such as heavy metals, mineral oils, PAH's, microplastics and PFAS. How to ensure that these contaminants do not end up in our European waters? 🐚 In the StopUP initiative, several technologies to remove these technologies are tested. One of which being the (Urban) #RainShell developed by StopUP partner Aqua Aurora and currently further scaled by EWB Circular Rain . The #RainShell is a patented #NatureBasedSolution that buffers and treats runoff in underground beds of sea shells and minerals. ♻️With the help of StopUP the long-term performance of the #RainShell is investigated through a variety of tests by Aquafin NV in Wetteren, TAUW Nederland in Gemeente Zoeterwoude and Gemeente Amsterdam and the PIA - Prüfinstitut für Abwassertechnik GmbH . Not all meetings are on zoom! This today from one of our PlantVillage+ Officers Joseph Kizonguchi on an upcoming field day to be held (25th July). The company I am building (PlantVillage+ https://lnkd.in/euhaWbx3) sells inputs to grow food and turns waste biomass into carbon credits & fertilizer. The success of the company depends on the full and active engagement of the farmers who become agents and get a base salary, commission and share in the profits. But also the farmers themselves who can earn points, the more the buy. That can turn into future discounts or profit sharing. I am excited by this next step! A farmer focused company for people and planet! Climate change adaptation and mitigation intertwined! Built on a software platform (PlantVillage) that can scale and scale with a $1.29 billion R&D department called Penn State University which has been in the business of improving farmer livelihoods since 1855! "Unlocking ethanol access [Sept 10] The United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resource Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) recently approved a $25 million (€23 million) investment in the American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE)-led Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) expansion. This builds on the successful South Dakota-based project announced in 2021 to unlock corn ethanol access to clean fuel markets and new tax incentives, such as the #45Z #cleanfuel production credit, based on the adoption of #climatesmart agricultural practices which reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The new RCPP funding will help farmers adopt reduced tillage, nutrient management and cover crops on nearly 100,000 acres across 167 counties surrounding 13 ethanol facilities partnering with ACE to implement the project in the 10-state region of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The US sites were strategically chosen to provide the project’s scientific team with statistically significant data regarding the GHG effect of conservation practices in different soil types and climates." #ethanol #biofuels #agsolutions #sustainableenergy https://lnkd.in/ePr_ZRSE

Great pull-quote from this Environmental Working Group report: “There’s not a lot outside of these federal programs that are going to help farmers reduce their emissions. So if this money isn’t going to the right practices, then agriculture as a whole in the United States is not going to reduce their emissions.” For sure, EQIP can do more to drive towards practices that actually sequester carbon - but we can also do more to make sure the amazing practices that exist, or are being developed, are brought to the fore. Ss a member of AirMiners current LaunchPad cohort, I get to see these innovative #carbonremoval ideas every day - I know they're available!
