Mangroves and coastal ecosystems I recently had the opportunity to visit Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh where Dr Reddy’s Foundation, in collaboration with local communities and ICFRE, are regenerating mangrove forests as part of the climate change vertical. Satya Aruna of Dr. Reddy’s Foundation, who holds the position of technical associate, biodiversity, explained that the foundation is laying emphasis on the rejuvenation of the coastal ecosystem under its Action for Climate and Environment Programme. One of the ways to mitigate the impact of cyclones and tidal surges is through the restoration of the mangrove ecosystem. About 40 percent of the world’s mangrove cover is found in two regions: South East Asia and South Asia. India has about three percent of the total mangrove cover in South Asia, according to the Global Mangrove Alliance. #mangroves #Andhra #India #climatechange UN Biodiversity Suman S.

The Savannah Grasslands of Maharashtra are essential for supporting diverse wildlife and sustaining local livelihoods. However, they continue to face significant challenges, such as degradation and loss of biodiversity. As part of our ongoing efforts through the Maharashtra Savanna Grassland Restoration Project, we have planted 75,000 grass saplings across Kendur village and the Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in Pune District in the first phase of restoration. Our work focuses on collaborating closely with local communities to promote sustainable practices and enhance livelihoods, creating benefits for both people and nature. Together, we are committed to restoring these critical habitats and building a sustainable future for the savanna grasslands! Supported by DCB Bank aiming to preserve these landscapes and empower communities as custodians of their environment. Did you know that the Mangroves are crucial in mitigating the effects of cyclones in coastal regions? Acting as natural barriers, they protect coastal communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems from flooding and erosion during cyclones. 🌱🌍 This necessitates the need to respect, protect, and restore our biological wealth. This #InternationalDayForBiologicalDiversity, Reliance Foundation commends the determination of communities living in coastal regions of Odisha and West Bengal, who have showcased proactive environmental stewardship through mangrove plantation drives for protection and preservation of mangroves.👩🏽🌾 Their story is an example of the power of knowledge-sharing and capacity-building interventions in enabling communities to be a #PartOfThePlan in conserving our biodiversity. #RelianceFoundation #WeCare #MangroveProtection #CoastalResilience #EnvironmentalStewardship #BiodiversityConservation #InternationalDayForBiologicalDiversity
