This webinar will provide an overview of methods for clinical evaluation of TBI, including capability gaps in current assessment tools, potential advantages of sensor-based methods, and ongoing research conducted by the Defense Health Agency TBI Center of Excellence at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and Naval Health Research Center to develop and evaluate novel approaches for assessing cognitive and oculomotor performance. Relationships between cognitive and oculomotor measures and performance on simulated military/operational tasks will also be discussed.

Future War: Will it really be clean and green? Military sector jargon like ‘green warfare’ and ‘precision warfare’ would certainly have us believe so! Last week, our Executive Director Dr Stuart Parkinson gave a presentation at Queen's University Belfast as part of the ‘Imagining Future War’ conference. It exposed the inherent contradictions within military technology development. For example, while new weapons technologies often boast increased precision and lower emissions, their primary allure lies in the ‘battlefield advantage’ they offer. Paradoxically, such technological advancements can lead to greater usage, undermining any intended benefits. Ultimately, there is a sense of ‘techno-optimism’ clouding our imagination. This continues to shift the focus away from human security and peace-oriented solutions towards insecurity and destruction. The National Institutes of Health, the Office of Naval Research, and the U.S. Army have temporarily halted all grants to the University of California at San Diego. The incident underscores the critical importance of compliance with reporting requirements. Federal agencies are increasingly stringent about delinquent reports, impacting not just individual projects but entire institutions. This situation at UC San Diego serves as a crucial reminder of the potential consequences of non-compliance and highlights the need for researchers and administrative staff to ensure all reporting obligations are met promptly. We all do our best, but hopefully having this information as something to send the more resistant customers we deal with may help to get some final reports done. Warfare continuously evolves, so military medicine must evolve as well. In the civilian world, it takes on average 17 years for a new discovery to reach the bedside. In Iraq and Afghanistan, U.S. military medicine developed, fielded and rapidly scaled up more than 27 major innovations in combat casualty care in little more than a decade. Working with a research budget 1/30th the size of that of the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense (DoD) identified, prioritized, and funded high-impact combat casualty research to meet its most pressing needs. https://lnkd.in/gydzF3y6

🔍 Is America’s air dominance hidden in plain sight? I've just published an article exploring a fascinating and often misunderstood topic: the intersection of advanced military technology, strategic secrecy, and the UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) narrative. ✈️ The Phantom in the Skies: America's Secret Air Dominance Platform and the Long Shadow of the UAP Cover Story dives into the possibility that some UAP sightings could be cutting-edge platforms, cloaked by a deliberate cover story to protect national security. In this piece, I explore: • The technical capabilities of a hypothesized advanced triangular aircraft, • How past military projects like the F-117 Nighthawk set the stage for strategic disinformation, • And why the government’s fascination with UAPs might be more than it appears. Curious to see how deep the shadow of secrecy goes? Let me know your thoughts! Do you think the UAP narrative is a cover for modern military advancements? 👽✈️ #militarytechnology #UAP #stealth #defense #aviation

“To prevent cold-war competition from devolving into a hot war, it’s time to innovate as if the free world depended on it.” Secretary Leon Panetta and Congressman Mike Gallagher call on senior defense leaders and policymakers to hasten the shift toward a culture of #innovation by investing in projects like the Naval Innovation Center (NIC) at the Naval Postgraduate School. The Naval Innovation Center offers "a unique national resource: a center for the military’s brightest minds, tasked with removing barriers to innovation and accelerating the Pentagon’s adoption of commercial technology." No one innovates alone. The Naval Innovation Center at NPS is a catalyst for the broader defense innovation ecosystem, bringing together DOD, industry, and academia to address the operational challenges we face with the incredible talent being developed through education and research at NPS. There is no other place that has the same mix of Joint, Combined, and intergenerational students working side by side to drive the adoption of new practices.
