Successful BiDi test with the BMW i4 And we continue testing the bidirectional functionality of electric vehicles. Today it was the turn of the BMW i4 M50. In my opinion, it is one of the best electric vehicles ever and with BiDi I would have bought it myself last year. Well, now there's an argument for me to buy one. The tests were carried out with standard HW and SW at our cooperation partner in Finland. This time the losses were also measured, the results are not available, but at full power, as shown, they should be around 350 watts. To make it clear, the tests are not approved by the manufacturer, we only show that the vehicles are already BiDi capable today via a standardized interface. At the same time, this also means that due to the legal requirements and the successive -20 introduction next year, we will probably be significantly more than 50% of BEV V2X ready by then. Nissan making moves in EV ⚡️ Nissan is making significant strides in driving down the cost of EV’s, with its innovative samarium-iron motor magnet. Set to be commercially feasible by fiscal 2030, this magnet promises to revolutionise EV manufacturing. The potential to slash EV production costs by 30%, bringing them on par with ICE vehicles would be a huge benefit. Unlike traditional neodymium magnets, Nissan’s samarium-iron magnet avoids reliance on rare earth elements primarily sourced from China, mitigating supply chain risks. Pioneering the use of samarium-iron magnets in EVs, is a first in the industry, showing that the next advancement is only around the corner. Even those that don’t approve of EV’s can’t deny that the technology is continuously advancing. However, Nissan must scale up from lab tests to mass production, a complex process with potential hurdles. The samarium-iron magnet’s magnetic force is currently between that of neodymium and ferrite magnets, posing performance optimization challenges. Company President Makoto Uchida emphasised the use of Nissan’s unique engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain methods to boost competitiveness in the EV market.
