🌟 How to feed the Olympics? 🌟 Paris 2024 Olympics have just began, and millions of people around world will watch the event over the next two weeks. How will supply chain support the largest restaurant in the world: the Athletes' Village, catering for 15000 people? Here’s a glimpse into how the organizers are ensuring a seamless and eco-friendly food supply: 1. Local and Seasonal Sourcing: Ingredients from France: Most ingredients will be sourced locally to minimize carbon footprints. 2. Reusable Dishware: For the first time, the Olympic Village will use 47,000 reusable plates, drastically reducing waste. 3. Massive Operational Scale: 40,000 Meals Daily: A dedicated team of over 200 chefs has developed more than 500 menu items. 4. Waste Reduction and Recycling: Comprehensive Recycling Programs: All food waste will be composted, and unused food will be donated to local food banks. By integrating local sourcing, sustainable practices, and innovative operational strategies, Paris 2024 is setting new standards for mega-event catering. If you're looking for more information, I have shared great articles about this topic in the comments. #Olympics #Paris2024 #EYSupplyChain #supplychain

We’re delighted to welcome Familie Wiesner Gastronomie AG as our first customer from the gastronomy sector! Familie Wiesner Gastronomie (FWG) is a family-owned restaurant business from Switzerland and removes CO₂ from the air with us as an additional step to fight climate change and protect the planet for future generations. FWG’s sustainability team visited our first commercial direct air capture facility in Hinwil earlier this April, where we had the chance to discuss the role of carbon removal in their net-zero strategy. For FWG, taking climate action as a business also means bringing the topic closer to its guests. On top of our agreement, FWG's customers therefore pay a small percentage of their online food orders towards our carbon removal service. If you're based in Switzerland, you can now enjoy local products and help to remove CO₂ from the air when ordering from Nooch Asian Kitchen, Negishi Sushi Bar, Miss Miu, The Butcher, Outback Lodge, and Kitchen Republic. Sustainability is a hot topic in the #eventsindustry and too often, aspects of the supply chain are labelled as the enemy of its continued progress. The immediate cessation or removal of certain items within the industry without first understanding those services is not the answer and will not in the long term, have the desired effect of making our industry more sustainable. Not only can it ostracise the suppliers that help make our fantastic events possible, but it also has a knock-on effect on exhibitors and organisers as well. ESSA Director Andrew Harrison spoke to Exhibition News about how this point of view needs to be extinguished and instead replaced with a triangle of understanding between the supplier, the organiser and the exhibitor in order to make real progress on our collective sustainable journey. We still have a long way to go, but let’s be ambitious and together let’s strategise, not demonise, to ensure our industry is a sustainable one now and in the future. So many service providers within the events industry will resonate with this! While the events supply chain isn't inherently the enemy of sustainability, this viewpoint can pose challenges for certain businesses whose capacity to change heavily depends on the cooperation of those around them. By fostering understanding and collaboration among suppliers, organisers, and exhibitors, it enables the integration of sustainable practices. ESSA a mental reset is exactly what is needed!

Delivering creative, sustainable exhibition spaces. Focused on worthwhile F2F experiences, optimal brand engagement & improving business outcomes.
How the #exhibitionindustry looks at itself here will be interesting. My initial thoughts were positive for the near future, making small changes individually as suppliers, stand designers, stand builders… just a small change multiplied becomes a sea change collectively.👍 We’re already doing our ‘small’ bit. #eventindustry #sustainableinnovation

Question of the day, Which expo are you attending? “All three…” Cue the puzzled looks – and even more confused glances as I made my way around each expo with my stack of passes! But whilst they are indeed three very different expos, sustainability was a common theme that tied them all together. First stop I called by Environmental Services & Solutions Expo (ESS Expo) and paid a visit to our CPL/Puragen Activated Carbons team! This gave me an opportunity to finally see their impressive AquaSorber® 22-100 mobile carbon filters. It certainly helps them to stand out in a crowded hall! I then cut across to our Homefire stand at Glee Birmingham Show where Russell Haigh & Kevin Moss had set up to show our range of eco-friendly firewood, smokeless fuels, and firelighters. They even had some of our charcoal, although the weather hasn’t been so kind for BBQs recently. Did you also know it was Glee’s 50 year anniversary? 🥳 And finally I headed over to UK Metals Expo - The Leading Event for the Entire Metals Supply Chain. Primarily to see if this would be a suitable addition to our ecoke exhibition schedule for 2025 📆 but also to speak to some recent connections! The exhibition has only been running for 3 years, and there’s already talk of it being even bigger next year. It’s fantastic to see how the metals industry is evolving towards more sustainable, future-focused practices. Some stands even had games to get involved in, because who says metal can’t be fun! Even if you don’t attend all three next year, it’s fantastic to see sustainability front and centre across garden retail, metals, and energy services. If you're in any of these industries, The NEC, Birmingham is the place to be! #GLEE2024 #UKMetalsExpo #ESS #ecoke #Sustainability #GreenTech #NECBirmingham #EcoInnovation #SustainableFuture
