Contrary to the half-bridge modules in conventional modular multilevel converters with only serial and bypass operation, emerging topologies bring additional parallel inter-module connectivity, introducing sensorless voltage balancing, load current sharing, and enhanced efficiency. Matching voltages and characteristics are crucial for the modules to allow for a parallel mode between them, but it is not feasible for mixed-type or heterogeneous battery systems. In our recent paper published in IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification, Mr. Pourhadi introduces a reconfigurable battery system to solve the challenges of integrating batteries with varying characteristics saving up to 80% on the indutor size and 15% in efficiency. In that way, these devices can divert power flow from congested lines to other circuits with spare capacity, making more efficient use of the transmission assets." Like many grid operators, it still uses old PILC cables to connect its medium-voltage stations. Although these work perfectly, they were previously difficult to integrate into advanced network monitoring systems due to technical limitations.  ➡️ CSOR current sensor solution By mounting the new CSOR sensor bracket on insulated, unshielded medium-voltage cables - so-called PILC cables - modern short-circuit indicators can be connected and monitored via LoRaWAN. The current sensor is suitable for connection to the entire Sigma and ComPass series. ✅ Customer benefits By developing special brackets for earth cables, Horstmann has paved the way for simple and economical digitalisation of medium-voltage networks with old cables.
