Best young player at football Olympic tournament in #Paris2024 Spain wins the Olympic tournament and confirms its absolute dominance during this period after also winning the European Championship. Who wins our award for the best player? 🥇⚽️ The Frenchman Michael Olise of Bayern Munich wins our special ranking for the best player at the Olympic football tournament in Paris with a final PEI (Player Evaluation Index) of 2280 points. Despite a great performance and a double in the final, the Spaniard Fermin Lopez has to settle for second place, while the Argentine Thiago Almada remains in third place. An excellent showing by Morocco, which places four players in the top 15. Egypt also has a strong tournament, with two players making it into the overall ranking. In general, if we exclude the thrilling final, it was not an exciting tournament, with the outcome largely determined by the top players from the main teams. The best play came from Morocco, a truly impressive team that will bring some young players into the first team, making it even more competitive. Note: Only Under-23 players are included in the ranking. No over-age players. A maximum of three players from the same team are allowed in the ranking for each individual matchday. Alba Torrens: “We continue to resist, we continue to revolutionize” | Paris 2024 Olympic Games The six-time Euroleague champion and nine-time medal winner with the Spanish national team doesn’t want to stop. Alba Torrens will turn 35 on August 30, has renewed her contract with Valencia Basket for another season and is still going strong with Spain, captain of a team that will be looking to reach the semi-finals of the Games this Wednesday against Belgium (14:30). The forward from Benisalem (Mallorca) has played 205 games with the national team, but as if it were 1,000. She continues “with the enthusiasm of a child.” Ask. Undefeated and in the quarterfinals. How did the team recover from the injuries of Raquel Carrera and Silvia Domínguez? Answer. Together. There have been several occasions when the team has had to get up and adjust, both on and off the court. They were very important players, and it was also an emotional blow. There were moments of sadness and at the same time we had to continue. The team did it in the only way we know how, by supporting each other. P. What is Spain? R. Spain is commitment, enthusiasm, work and love for what we do. We go with our heart and responsibility at the same time, it’s a good mix. This team could not have achieved anything if it weren’t like that. P. How do you compensate for your lack of physicality compared to other teams? R. Focusing on our strengths and being aware of our weaknesses. When you know what you do well and what you find most difficult, you have taken the first step to face a match. And then there is our way of competing, we have always shown a very high level of competition, with or without victory, the line is very fine. We have the ability to compete against the best. P. How is generational change cooked up? R. It is a natural process, which is repeated in these cycles. It is necessary. After a very good moment, with many medals in a row, we are in this change. And in the middle of this change, last year we managed to triumph, a very valuable silver medal at the Eurobasket. It is a great achievement because of the combination of young players, others who have been around for a few years and are taking a step forward, and the veterans that we bring. We all accept our roles. P. What motivates you? R. The team motivates me, it has always been special to be here. I feel grateful to continue being part of this group. I have excitement and nerves in my stomach at every moment. That drives me to continue. And responsibility, I want to help the team in whatever role I have, on and off the court. My mentality has always been to contribute, in one way or another. I feel joy for being here, for helping, for adapting and living this unique experience. It is another dream. I still get nervous before games, my heart beats, those are my emotions, and I am happy to feel that way. Experience helps me so that those nerves do not play against me. P. How has your game changed over the ...

All roads lead to Paris for the 2024 Olympics LONDON, Dec 28 (Reuters) - All sporting roads lead to Paris next year with the first post-COVID Olympic Games looming large on the horizon but the two-week extravaganza will merely be the centrepiece for another 12 months of compelling theatre. Four continental soccer tournaments beginning with the Asian Cup in Qatar and Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast in January, will mean little respite for players and fans. Germany will stage the European Championship in June and July with the hosts running out of a time to put together a team capable of reviving past glories. At the same time, the Copa America takes place in the United States in what will be regarded as a rehearsal for the 2026 World Cup. Saudi Arabia will enhance its status as a global sporting hub in February when Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury meet in Riyadh to decide the undisputed heavyweight boxing title -- a clash in which the hype will reach stratospheric proportions. As further proof, if any were needed, of Gulf states' appetite for staging major events, swimmers and divers will get an early chance to put down markers for Paris when the Aquatics World Championships takes place in Qatar in February -- the first time it has been held in the region. After a miniscule break, the tennis season resumes days after Christmas and the Australian Open will welcome Spanish great Rafa Nadal who is returning to Grand Slam action in what will probably be his farewell year. NFL's Super Bowl will dominate the U.S. sporting narrative in the build-up to the February showpiece in Nevada and in Australia, 2024 kicks off in traditional fashion with a cricket test series against Pakistan. The sporting conveyor belt, it seems, gets more and more loaded each year -- but once every four years everything, for a few weeks at least, bows before the Olympic Games. Paris is, and will continue to be, dogged by the usual gripes about staging the greatest show on earth. Transport issues and security concerns are par for the course but organisers are also contending with an outbreak of bed bugs, pollution in the River Seine and a stink about Paris's traditional street booksellers being dispersed. By the time thousands of sportsmen and women arrive in the French capital, however, the focus will likely switch to a return to near Olympic normality after the delayed and COVID-impacted Tokyo Games played out in deserted stadiums.

Russian armwrestlers refuse to compete as neutral athletes, to miss WAF championships Earlier, the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF) decided to allow Russians to compete at international competitions with neutral status MOSCOW, September 26/ Russian athletes will miss the World Armwrestling Championships starting on September 30 in Greece due to their refusal to compete under a neutral flag, Alexander Filimonov, the president of the Russian Armwrestling Federation, has told TASS. "We were probably the first Russian federation to have refused to perform at an international competition as neutral athletes," Filimonov said, when asked if the Russian team was going to the world championships in Greece. "The international federation understands and accepts our position. Together we are waiting for the IOC to change its mind." Earlier, the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF) decided to allow Russians to compete at international competitions with neutral status. The World Armwrestling Championships will be held in Loutraki, Greece, from September 30 to October 6. #business #finance #financialservices

Don't underestimate anyone ⚠️🇨🇳 16-14 (narrow) win in the cross finals at the World Championship in Qatar last February. Improvement figures now. Kick-off Olympic Games 2024 🧡 Netherlands vs China ❕ Last World Championship we narrowly won against China by 2 goals. Ultimately, winning is the most important thing in the knockout phase, but we want to play better. More preparation and more control during the match. That is our identity as a team. We had to work on this. Last week, China visited us in Zeist to train and play against eachother. Important to us for several reasons: • As a kickoff towards the Olympics. • We can play together as a team against another country/team. Instead of playing against each other. • We can play games against China specifically. Valuable, as we didn't show our best game in Doha last World Cup in February. 🧘🏼♀️☀️ Conclusion: a good kick off. We will continue our route in the coming weeks. If you want to see us play, you can do so from July 9 to 12 in the Zwemcentrum Rotterdam. See you then 👋🏽 TeamNL Koninklijke Nederlandse Zwembond (KNZB) Sportbedrijf Rotterdam International Olympic Committee – IOC World Aquatics #teamnl #athlete #waterpolo #olympics #preparation #fullfocus #thenetherlands #china
