We are proud winners of the 5th Jaivik India Awards 🏆 How do organic farming systems perform compared to conventional farming systems in the tropics? Our long-term trials in India investigate this question since 2007 in the context of cotton production. The participating institutes of the SysCom project have now been awarded with the 5th Jaivik India Award for the category "Research Institute". 👉 Here you can find a policy dossier summarizing the learnings from the award-winning project. There is growing evidence that agroecology and organic are promising alternatives to conventional agriculture: https://lnkd.in/d2nb83xh International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA); Stiftung Biovision; LED - Liechtensteinischer Entwicklungsdienst; Coop; Direktion für Entwicklung und Zusammenarbeit

Exciting Breakthrough in Poultry Genetics! 🐔 We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in poultry research: the identification of genes that reduce egg production in desi birds. 🥚✨ 🔬 Research Highlights: Our dedicated team of scientists has been working tirelessly to understand the genetic factors influencing egg production in indigenous (desi) bird breeds. By employing advanced genomic techniques and comprehensive data analysis, we have successfully pinpointed specific genes associated with reduced egg production. 🌟 Implications of the Discovery: Enhanced Breeding Programs: This breakthrough enables us to refine breeding programs, selecting against these genetic markers to enhance egg production in desi birds. Sustainable Agriculture: Improved egg production in indigenous breeds supports sustainable farming practices, ensuring food security and economic stability for rural communities. Preservation of Biodiversity: By focusing on indigenous breeds, we contribute to the preservation of genetic diversity in poultry, which is crucial for resilient agricultural systems.

The advancements in agricultural technology continue to shape the future of global food security and at the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, we are committed to pioneering innovation to support the seed industry and ensure the development of resilient crop varieties for food security. I have the privilege of working under the guidance of Prof. Qing Chen on one of such projects to develop mite-resistant cassava but Interestingly, many people do not know how invested China is in cassava. China is the world's largest importer of cassava therefore offering a unique collaboration opportunity for many African countries, especially Nigeria, the leading producer of cassava. This collaboration in research exchange enables us to build bridges between nations, enhancing the development of essential crops such as cassava, sisal, coffee, maize, soybean and many other crops. Basically we are developing sustainable, pest and disease-resistant, and high-yield varieties that not only strengthen global agriculture but also drive economic growth for all involved. This is a promising task I am excited about.

Managing aflatoxins in groundnuts during drying and storage Certain moulds grow on groundnut, maize and other foods. These moulds produce a poison called aflatoxin. To have healthy groundnuts it is important to care for the groundnut during its whole growth, but especially during drying and storage. Largest farm in India. The largest farm in India is the IARI Experimental Farm, operated by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in Pusa, New Delhi. This farm covers approximately 1,250 hectares and is used for extensive agricultural research, including the development of new crop varieties, agronomic practices, and sustainable farming techniques. The IARI Experimental Farm plays a crucial role in advancing India's agricultural science and technology. #uswc #largestfarminindia #iariexperimentalfarm #indianagriculture #agriculturalresearch #sustainablefarming #cropdevelopment #iari #newdelhi

# Agriculture development in India..a glimpse of last 50 years 🌾 Exciting Insights from ' Agriculture development in India..a glimpse of last 50 years' Workshop at KL University 🌾 Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a workshop exclusively organized by the Agriculture department at KL University, Vaddeswaram. It was truly inspiring to see a community that remains deeply committed to traditional farming practices while embracing modern techniques. The focus was on Organic Farming, something many of us often consider challenging or even impossible. However, through the use of Precision Agriculture, they demonstrated that organic methods can thrive and yield results. Though the initial difference in output was notable, within 2-3 years, they successfully met their yield goals. One key takeaway was the indispensable role of biofertilizers, particularly Trichoderma, which has become an essential component in organic farming. Special thanks to the esteemed dignitaries Dr.Gajanan Narayan Dange ji ,V.Bagaiah ji ,Shri.R.A Velankar Ji who attended and shared their valuable insights, helping us all rethink what’s possible in sustainable agriculture. #OrganicFarming #PrecisionAgriculture #Sustainability #Biofertilizers #FarmingInnovations #AgricultureDevelopment #KLUniversity

Over the past few days, I was in Mbita, where we had a TOT session on scaling regenerative Black soldier fly farming innovations with vegetable-integrated push-pull cropping systems for one health in rural Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. The sub-Saharan region is at a high risk of food insecurity given the dependence on cereal imports, rapid population growth coupled with low levels of agricultural productivity, pests,s, and diseases. This innovation, where we combine the push-pull method with black soldier fly production, is set to address this issue, especially in rural areas. One can use waste to grow Bsf protein for their livestock and at the same time get quality organic fertilizer to use in their farms where they practice push-pull technology. I will demonstrate how the push-pull works below. ICIPE - International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology IKEA Foundation Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO)
