Like so many of my partners-in-crime, I'm attending the Photonics21 GM. Currently a superb panel discussion led by a very talented woman whose name I cannot find but which I will sure hunt down (the name, not the lady). She's well-prepared and sharp, and so are her remarks! [edit: the professional moderator Irene Rompa!] Topics of discussion (not exhaustive, they sure say a lot of interesting things!): - support to the Chips Act (well, yeah sure, but photonics is not only PIC - my opinion here) - cohesion and identity of Europe as a place of innovation: how do we structure it and how do we fund it? How do we support better startups and growing SMEs, how could we increase the private capital support? - attractiveness of the sector: more communication, maybe a more professional communication required to explain what&why photonics, both to policy makers _and_ to the public - attractiveness and development of the workforce... as well as make sure that this workforce stays and grows with the companies? #photonics still has a lot of room to grow (projected business volume beyond the B€ mark in a few years) but our current course of action would need to be steered to address the points above. Funnily, we at Photonics Bretagne try to address several of them at our own level. Follow us (and me! 😊) to know more! Go #photonicseu :)

𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗡𝗟 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂? 📆: 14th of November, 11.00 o'clock 📍: Precisiebeurs, Brabanthallen, Dome Hall 1 The last few months we were working on a EU proposal for setting up a Dutch ChipNL Competence Center. Any day now we expect a (positive) outcome. But what is it about? On behalf of the whole national team Brainport Development, TNO, High Tech NL, ChipTech Twente, imec the Netherlands, JePPIX and Oost NL I'll explain more on the Precisiebeurs (Precision Fair). 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩? The EU Chips Act is currently being rolled out. The Dutch industry, operating under ChipNL, wants to contribute to the EU ambitions by setting up the ChipNL Competence Center. Our main focus is providing knowledge on semiconductor manufacturing equipment, chip design, integrated photonics, quantum and heterogeneous integration. Therefore, we have set up a team with business developers and supply chain managers who are helping startups, scaleups, sme’s and application markets with knowledge dissemination, supply chain coordination towards a.o. pilot lines and design platform, skills development, internationalization, funding, and innovation programs. Main question for today is: what’s in it for you? Are you joining? You can register here → https://lnkd.in/eC2QNp8y
