3D Printing a HUGE HOUSE Researchers at the University of Maine unveiled what they say is a promising, climate-friendly response to the nation’s affordable housing crisis: the world’s first, bio-based 3D printed home. The entire house, from the ceiling to the walls, has been printed with Ingersoll’s MasterPrint® installed at the university’s Advanced Structures & Composites Center. The entire home was printed using a material known as wood flour, the residuals left over from sawmills, mixed with a binder made from corn. The next step is to scale up the printing process. This is an appreciation post highlighting an additive manufacturing process that you might not have seen before. 🦾🦿🤖 3D printing a composite house. 🦾🦿🤖 BEW Designed and manufactured as a part of the SMART Program between the University of Maine and @Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and printed on the World’s Largest Polymer 3D Printer at the #ASCC, the BioHome3D is the first 3D printed house made entirely with bio-based, recyclable materials! 😍 The project was designed to address labor shortages and supply chain issues that are driving high costs and constricting the supply of affordable housing. Less time is required on-site building and fitting up the home due to the use of automated manufacturing and off-site production. Printing using abundant, renewable, locally sourced wood fiber feedstock reduces dependence on a constrained supply chain. #BEW #BharatEngineeringWork #Engineering #Innovation #ArtificialIntelligence #Bharat 🇮🇳 #Creativity #Robotics #Constructions #Industries #Technology #AI #Science #ElectricalEngineering #MechanicalEngineering #CivilEngineering

3D printing: from homes to entire cities... but how safe are these structures? The progress of 3D printing for construction is increasingly significant to the point that today it is possible to build not only individual buildings but entire neighborhoods with this new technology. In the video you can see how 20 fully printed buildings are created. We know the advantages of this technology well but there are also some doubts related to the need to adapt the regulations to a new construction system. ❓ From the point of view of structural solidity, are we able to guarantee for these buildings at least the same level of safety as those built with more traditional structures? ❓ What are your thoughts on this? #engineering #structuralengineering #engineer #3dprinting #future For more: 📌 Follow #ImpressiveEngineering 📌 Click on the 🔔 and select "All"
