To celebrate Fidelio’s #15thAnniversary, we are exploring some of the key developments in the Boardroom that we have engaged with since 2009. Board thinking on #culture is potentially the most significant of these. 📣 Championing Culture 📣 The Financial Crisis taught us a lot about culture, and in the following 15 years Boards have been tasked with ensuring a healthy and strong culture throughout the organisation. Initially many Boards were sceptical about their ability to influence culture, but this has developed substantially. Today a significant part of Fidelio’s Board reviews focus on the Board’s grasp of culture, as well as the tools and levers available to the Board to ensure that the right culture is being embedded company-wide. EMS leadership could learn so much from looking outside the profession. In fact, most of what I learned about leadership, management, communication skills and emotional intelligence ( before there was a name for it) came from my business experience & training opportunities I had in the hospitality industry. Unfortunately, most of what I see in EMS “leadership” is what not to do. #EMS #Leadership #TEDtalks

“The perspective that I've learned over this past year is that we can do hard things well. Sometimes you think that was a tough year, that was a tough project, and it's going to get easier…you're growing from those hard times so that you're prepared for the next hard thing you do. And I've really learned that I can do that next thing. I can do that hard thing. And at the end of the day it's nice to see and realize that when the next hard thing comes, and I have that doubt, I can look back on this and go, oh, it will work out. It will be for the benefit of everyone.” Julie Arrowsmith, President & CEO, G6 Hospitality LLC Hospitality WATCH NOW: https://lnkd.in/eHHV9d5F LISTEN NOW: https://lnkd.in/eHTWpX7E Julie discusses with Rachel Humphrey of DEI Advisors her style of leadership, the biggest lesson she's learned over the past year, and how it will impact her moving forward. She shares her approach to public speaking, how she overcomes self doubts, and how staying fresh and learning the whole business helped her grow during her first 29 years at G6, eventually resulting in her current CEO role. Finally, Julie talks about managing business travel, finding time to refresh outside of work, and the underlying basis for her mantra of "be kind to everyone always." #diversityandinclusion #deiadvisors #leadership #hospitalityindustry #empoweringpersonalsuccess #dei #womeninhospitality #womenempoweringwomen

"Teamwork makes the dream work." This quote is often attributed to John C. Maxwell, a well-known leadership expert and author. It highlights the power of working together to achieve shared goals and dreams. This saying takes life when there is an event under the auspices of Impact Production Group. For this gala dinner, at Long Beach Hotel in June 2023, from the smallest detail to the fireworks, our dedicated team took care of everything and as a result, it was hassle-free for the client. An immense feeling of gratitude for our team members, our clients, and the Long Beach Hotel... it was true teamwork once again. “An Ocean is Made Up of Raindrops” -- Will Guidara, "Unreasonable Hospitality: The Remarkable Power of Giving People More than They Expect" (Optimism Press, 2022) The theory of change in culture work is based on the premise that intentional efforts lead to clear outcomes: a workshop leads to skill improvement, coaching leads to personal development, skillful onboarding leads to shared values and mindsets. In my experience, reality often tests that theory. Workshop attendance is low and it’s already the true believers. Coachees want to change behavior but are enmeshed in an incentive structure that makes it easier to stay the same rather than grow. Core values are eloquently explained onboarding but the executives who generated them are no longer with the company and championing a value set. Or, it’s just a Tuesday after a long weekend. At times it can feel overwhelmingly difficult to stay committed towards noble audacious goals at scale. In his book Unreasonable Hospitality, Will Guidara shares stories from his experience running Eleven Madison Park, once the best restaurant in the world. There are many memorable lessons to take from his experience in fine dining – “Be ruthless with 95% of your budget so you have 5% to spend on silly, extravagant, playful things that make your experience memorable” is a favorite – but i’ve been thinking a lot about the quote above to keep me grounded and focused on what I can control. How many raindrops can I throw in the ocean today? At LifeLabs Learning, we often preach “Small change, big impact” - we’re asking people to consider small tweaks to their behavior that can scale up to shifting the culture of their teams. After reading Guidara’s stories about creating a culture of excellence, I’m adding his Ocean/Raindrops metaphor to my arsenal of stories that may help leaders embrace the power of their actions in the face of what feels like overwhelming resistance. https://lnkd.in/geMzeX2J #lifelabs #culture #leadership #coaching

Celebrating Crüe Club’s Evolution & Looking Ahead! As we bid farewell to Q1, I’m struck by the incredible journey Crue Club has embarked on. We've not only introduced our now-popular Topic Series events but also filled every seat at the table, sparking insightful discussions and forging meaningful connections in the process. It’s about more than just networking for us. It's about discussing the critical issues facing our industry today and preparing for the uncertainties of tomorrow. This summer, we’re taking it a step further with our Leadership & Personal Growth workshops—a space where personal and professional growth intersect, addressing a gap in our industry: the need for leadership development. And there’s more on the horizon this fall as we tackle operational challenges head-on, providing actionable solutions for our members. The pride I feel for this community and the value it delivers is immense. But here's the thing: access to this unique blend of networking, insight, and development is becoming increasingly rare. In an era marked by frequent M&A activity, traditional industry events often miss the mark, leaving attendees craving more substance and fewer superficial connections. Leadership roles are expanding, but the opportunity for growth and development isn’t keeping pace. This is where Crue Club shines. To our members and those on the brink of joining: spaces are limited. With the demand high and availability tight, now is the moment to seize this unparalleled opportunity to differentiate and elevate both yourself and your team in ways only Crue Club can offer. If you’re ready to embrace a new way of connecting, learning, and leading, reach out. Let’s make your next move your best move. You can subscribe to our Crue Club newsletter for regular updates and key takeaways from our topic series discussions. #CrueClub #LeadershipDevelopment #GenuineConnections #IndustryInnovation #OilandGas

When asked about how she handled the risks in starting her business, Michelle said, “If I knew then what I know now, I don't know if I would have done it, but at the same time, I am so glad that I did. For me, starting a business was a risk, but not starting the business was also a risk… There's never a good time. You have to start now. And it reminds me, there's a saying the best time to plant a tree is 30 years ago. The second best time is today. It's the same thing with starting a business. There's not going to be a perfect opportunity to start a business…why not now?” Michelle Jensen Session, Co-Founder, Aquarius Hospitality Solutions WATCH NOW: https://lnkd.in/eYuJpr5Y LISTEN NOW: https://lnkd.in/eHM4XhMD Michelle Jensen Session shares with David Kong of DEI Advisors her career journey and the personal mantra that guides her.
