May is mental health awareness month, and school-based clinics are offering trusted resources to anyone who needs the support. We also want to be aware of the racial inequities in mental health, namely among Black youth. We are seeing worse outcomes, namely lack of access to appropriate care, higher suicide rates, higher absenteeism, and so much more. We need to ensure we create culturally responsive systems and address anti-Black racism head-on to make a real difference. This article prompts some good thinking on the subject: https://lnkd.in/g_PxSHFQ TIME

Teen mental health impacts us all, whether we're parents or not. It shapes our communities, our schools, and our future workforce. Let's not forget, these teens are the leaders of tomorrow. Their well-being, their resilience, directly ties to the world we will inhabit in the years to come. Raising awareness is a start, but real change comes from action. Let's invest in comprehensive mental health programs, let's train teachers and mentors who can spot warning signs early on. But most importantly, let's foster an environment where every teen feels safe to speak up. The ripple effects are far-reaching, going beyond just our homes and classrooms. It's about creating a supportive, compassionate society. Time to step up, and bring mental health out from the shadows. It's not just about them, it's about us all. #teenmentalhealth #parentingteens #teenmentalwellbeing

What happens when a young person's mental health reaches breaking point? Read one mother's account of how a community group helped her family when they needed it most 🔗 https://bit.ly/3QOGiY9 Young people want to go somewhere that is a safe space close to home, with people they can trust and where they can be supported. A youth centre can provide a sense of belonging and community that is essential for young people to share these worries as they navigate the challenges of adolescence. Youth workers build trust with young people, helping them open up about the more difficult challenges they may be experiencing and creating a plan of action involving parents, schools, or other agencies to help young people thrive and deal with mental health issues before they become worse.
