I am looking to hire another analyst for distressed workouts - must have ample real estate financial modeling experience. I’m sorry, I cant give somebody “a shot” and do not have the time to train in from scratch. 3-4 days in office in Manhattan. 1. Must know Argus and be proficient at financial modeling. 2. I always ask "whats an SNDA" and "What's the difference between a note and a mortgage" and "is there a personal guaranty in a non recourse loan" If they don't know the answer its not a fit. I can start them almost immediately - if you send me a resume, I will advise on pay. Somebody who’s primary experience has been doing acquisitions for a multifamily syndicator or a property manager is likely not a fit. This is a not close to a $275k a year type job (although it has potential to get there and exceed)- I’m not Goldman Sachs 😂

So you want to leave Corporate Intelligence consulting? Here are your options… I spend a lot of time every each week working with Corporate Intelligence/Investigations professionals from consulting firms on strategising with them on their career goals. For those that decide it's time to leave consulting and are targeting in-house/client-side placement, key things to keep in mind; 1️⃣ This is a lot easier to achieve when you have 2-5 years of total work experience in the corporate intelligence industry. Why? You are moving into an environment where you will form part of a cost-centre rather than a profit-centre and there are less mid-level and senior roles in those environments. 2️⃣ You'll have far more options if you are based in a location that is a core hub for your target industry 3️⃣ Yes - some industries like Finance, Tech and Extractives will pay more but the difference in compensation is usually far lower than folks think What are the best exit options? 🏦 Getting a gig in Financial Services. You are most likely to be hired in an Enhanced Due Diligence role (or "Financial Intelligence Unit") or similar type function within a financial crime team. Banks (Deutsche Bank, Barclays, HSBC, Goldman Sachs, RBC), a Private Bank/Wealth business, a FinTech (Neobanks like Revolut, payments firms like Ebury) or a brokerage like Marex. 🚀 Get hired into the Crypto/Blockchain space. It can be a volatile industry but firms like TRM Labs, Chainalysis, Elliptic and Genesis have proven to be good options. 👨💻 Get hired into Tech i.e. Meta and Amazon etc. This is harder this year given heavy layoffs in that environment. Investigations, Intelligence and Risk teams are all viable options. Be careful to analyse what Trust & Safety teams do (you'll get bored in a content removal role!) 🔎 Move into a Litigation Fund's investigations/asset tracing team. This is much easier if you have asset tracing experience. Main players: Burford Capital, Omni Bridgeway and the new kids on the block Deminor. 🛢 Target an opportunity in financial crime, EDD, risk or intelligence within the Extractives industry. Firms like Shell and Glencore. 🤝 Move into sales or account management - easiest within "RegTech" firms and those operating in this industry (think Ground Truth Intelligence, Sayari | Commercial Risk Intelligence etc.) What are the hardest exits? 💹 Getting a job in a hedge fund or in a private equity firm. Yes some hedge funds have intelligence teams (Elliott Investment Management L.P., Davidson Kempner Capital Management, Point72 etc.) but they are very small and extremely selective. The PE firms nearly always outsource this work to consulting firms rather than doing it in-house. 🕵♂️ Moving into a "Corporate Investigator" role. I find these often go to former lawyers, forensic accountants or those from law enforcement backgrounds. It's possible to place into these roles from an intel consulting background but its tough.
