Extremely pleased to announce the publication of our work on high-efficiency #compressor trees for the recent AMD #Versal #FPGA architecture in #ACM Transactions on Reconfigurable Technology and Systems (TRETS). This work was led by Konstantin Hoßfeld and Thomas Preußer, while I had the chance to help with use case studies, writing, and proof-reading during and following my secondment last year📄 The paper describes and evaluates a heuristic approach to building compressor trees with several novel counters designed specifically for the Versal fabric. High-density compressor trees are crucial for maximizing the compute density in, for example, dot-product-dominated #ML inference tasks. The FPGA fabric excels in such applications, as it enables making efficient use of low-precision, sub-byte-wide data formats. This work ties together well with our previous post-training quantization paper.
