How can one technician (not salesperson) sell $6+MM in HVAC 3 years in a row? There are many factors: talent; an exceptional support system; a proven sales model. All those are definite. What makes some of the very best great—no matter what the industry—is attention to detail. It’s the little things that often make the biggest difference. That can be said about David Wilson of Baker Brothers in Dallas, TX. David is a selling technician for Baker Brothers. Most of the calls he runs are for demand service. Throughout this interview, David shares in detail his entire process. In this particular clip, David explains how he converts a service call into a sales opportunity… The “secret sauce” lies in the details—specifically, the particular words David uses to educate homeowners and influence their mindset. It’s masterful—and it transitions across all trades. So, I urge everyone to watch it, regardless of whether or not you sell HVAC. https://lnkd.in/gXgdnMuN

Solving building performance issues for big energy users | Helping building owners, facility managers, HVAC designers, mechanical engineers, & contractors with HVAC equipment direct from the factory.
TOP 10 ROLES OF COMMERCIAL HVAC EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER REPS | I get asked often "What do you do?"... so, I compiled this as a quick reference list. A commercial HVAC equipment manufacturer representative (rep) serves several important functions in the industry: 1) Product sales: The primary role of a manufacturer rep is to sell a complementary range of HVAC products from the manufacturers they represent within a defined territory. 2) Technical expertise: Reps provide in-depth product knowledge and technical information to clients. They stay up-to-date on the latest equipment, technologies, and industry trends. 3) Customer support: Reps offer customer service by answering questions, providing product information, and helping resolve issues. They act as a liaison between customers and manufacturers. 4) Training: Many reps conduct training sessions for #contractors, #engineers, and other professionals on product installation, maintenance, and new technologies. 5) Project assistance: Reps often help with system design, equipment selection, and troubleshooting for both new construction and retrofit projects. 6) Relationship building: They develop and maintain relationships with various stakeholders including contractors, engineers, building owners, and distributors. 7) Market insights: Reps provide valuable feedback to manufacturers about market trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape. 8) Problem-solving: They assist in resolving technical issues, often leveraging their direct connections with manufacturers. 9) Territory management: Reps typically cover specific geographic areas, providing localized support and market knowledge. 10) Product demonstrations: They may conduct demonstrations of new equipment or technologies for potential customers. Commercial HVAC reps play a crucial role in the industry by bridging the gap between product/equipment manufacturers and the professionals who specify, install, and maintain HVAC systems. Great insights Didi! The similarities you mention are so true. One thing that excites me everyday day here at Workiz is watching the power of intelligent Product Design, coupled with Ai that is so intuitive to use and easy to implement, empowers all businesses to level up their game and win!
CEO at Workiz * Startup Builder & Investor * Growth Hacker * Changing the service industry one job at a time
I wanted to share a bit about my transition from enterprise sales to my current role at Workiz, where we cater to B2C customers. The shift has been enlightening, and I've discovered that while the industries may differ, the core principles of service and connection remain strikingly similar. In enterprise sales, success hinges on understanding client needs, building trust, and delivering solutions that truly make a difference. This is no different for an #HVAC technician who visits a home. Let me illustrate: 1. The Initial Contact: Setting the Stage In sales, the first meeting is crucial. It's where you set the tone, establish rapport, and begin to understand the client's challenges. Similarly, when an #HVAC technician arrives at a customer’s home, that initial greeting sets the stage for the entire service experience. A warm smile, a friendly introduction, and a willingness to listen are key. 2. Understanding the Problem: Deep Dive Just as a sales professional dives deep into understanding a client’s business pain points, an HVAC technician must thoroughly assess the issue at hand. It's not just about fixing a broken unit; it’s about understanding the customer’s concerns, be it comfort, safety, or energy efficiency. 3. Providing a Solution: Expertise and Trust In enterprise sales, proposing a tailored solution that aligns with the client’s needs builds credibility and trust. An HVAC technician does the same by explaining the problem clearly, offering the best solutions, and ensuring the customer feels confident in the work to be done. 4. Follow-Up: Ensuring Satisfaction Post-sale follow-up is essential in sales to ensure the client is satisfied and to build long-term relationships. For an HVAC technician, following up after a service call to ensure everything is running smoothly and the customer is happy can turn a one-time service call into a lifelong customer. Continuous Learning and Adaptation Both fields require continuous learning and adaptation. Whether it’s staying updated with the latest industry trends in sales or the newest HVAC technologies, continuous improvement is key to providing exceptional service. Transitioning to Workiz has reinforced my belief in the power of connection and service. Whether you're closing a million-dollar deal or fixing a home’s heating system, it’s all about making a difference in someone’s life. To all the dedicated HVAC technicians and sales professionals out there, keep up the great work! Your expertise, dedication, and commitment to service are truly inspiring.

After moving out of the field as an HVAC service technician and into HVAC sales, I spent the next 12 years with spectacularly average performance. 40%-45% Close Rate / Low average ticket numbers = Frustration, bottom of the food chain for leads and a world of excuses on why I wasn't closing deals. Then everything changed towards the end of 2009. I spent hours pouring over every lead that had not closed as well as the ones that closed. I started to notice a pattern. That pattern helped me to develop the ListenMore LLC process that would end up changing my life. 2010 forward: 60%-65% close rate, sold more higher end systems, and revenue over $2.5 Million year over year. As a sales manager with a large residential service provider, I lead a group of 12 and had them apply my process. That group went from a 40% close rate to over 60%. Average job went from $7500 to over $14,000 in less than 2 years! I am willing to provide a free consultation (no charge and no pressure) to see if my process could work for you. Just type "Interested" in the comment section below.
