It’s not a mystery that we enjoy working with students! We love the energy students bring, their great questions and their creativity when approaching self-ethnography for the first time. As part of our Field Notes Academy initiative, we offer Field Notes for free to students running a research project for a PHD or final dissertation, and this is something we are very passionate about. ... and to mark our Academy month, we are excited to be running a new series of webinars aimed at students, to help them navigate the world of mobile ethnography and to introduce Field Notes and its functionalities in case they want to use it for their research projects. The first session is on Wednesday! Please share the information below with your contacts and drop us an email to register.

During 2023, Eriksholm scientists have had the pleasure of supervising a total of 31 engaged students, either studying for a master or a Phd 👩🎓 4 were based at Eriksholm, the remaining 27 at other locations. All of them were hard working, producing new insights related to the work we do here at Eriksholm 👨🔬 Their theses covered scientific areas such as audiovisual listening effort, pupil behavior, cognitive contributions, attention decoding and neural mechanism of attention switching. Dear Colleagues, I am part of a group of science communication practitioners, trainers and researchers that recently completed an NSF-funded project titled On-the-Spot Feedback (www.onthespotfeedback.org). The resulting work provides strategies and resources for science communicators to develop their skills at getting immediate feedback during their public engagements, which allows them to adjust and improve their engagements on the spot. Although this method was developed with scientists who communicate with public audiences in mind, On-the-Spot Feedback strategies can be used by anyone (including museum educators, science hobbyists, extension agents, etc.) who communicates ideas to public audiences. By attending this 75-minute informational webinar you will be introduced to: 1. The On-the-Spot Feedback (OTSF) project resources, including the 137 page On-the-Spot Guide detailing the OTSF approach. 2. How the OTSF strategies help scientists and other science communicators collect instantaneous feedback during their public engagements and improve their science communication skills. Date: August 15, 2024, via Zoom Time: 3:00pm to 4:15pm ET Register for the webinar at https://lnkd.in/gkr_J__Y. We will record the webinar, so please register even if you are unable to attend the event in August. We will send the link to the recording to you after the webinar. Please share this information with others who you think will be interested. We hope you will find the On-the-Spot Feedback strategies and their impact on science communicators of interest. On behalf of the OTSF team, Dennis Schatz (project Co-PI)

I'm planning to create a group of fellow PhD scholars in South Asian History from any Indian and International Universities for online discussion. Our goal is to exchange ideas on historiographies, research methodologies, and current research topics, while also sharing experiences and supporting each other through the PhD journey. Those who are interested, kindly DM me. #phd #research #phdlife #phdjourney #academia #phdinhistory #southasianstudies #historicalresearch

Excited to be starting my interdisciplinary PhD in communication & culture at TMU, where I will fuse my backgrounds in linguistics, identity, and horticulture! If you could ask the crazy-haired guy below (hair which won "best hair" at his prom, I'll have you know) he'd never believe you. Academia has traditionally operated in a bubble -- even within departments! I can't tell you how often I've heard people say "that's not real [insert discipline here]" and stop engaging with an idea. Interdisciplinary studies is important for allowing researchers to explore the intersections between fields, learning about concepts, constructs, theories, and perspectives that they might not have otherwise encountered. It allows us to find connections between our own research and research from these other fields, hopefully inspiring exciting new hypotheses. I can't wait to get started!

Amidst rapid technological advancements and a growing emphasis on Open Science and digital outputs, the humanities discipline has undergone a profound evolution in scholarly practices. Integrating digital methodologies into humanities scholarship is imperative for maintaining relevance and advancing research methodologies in the swiftly evolving academic realm. Read this ALLEA Digital Salon interview with Maciej Maryl, founding Director of the Digital Humanities Centre, to know more on the significance of incorporating digital practices into humanities scholarship, and navigating the challenges within this dynamic field. 👇 https://lnkd.in/d3qQxTbF Read ALLEA's report ‘Recognising Digital Scholarly Outputs in the Humanities’ here: https://lnkd.in/euSuNsDX #DigitalHumanities #Interview #ScholarlyResearch #Innovation #OpenScience

Very excited to share upcoming PhD course on Race, Space and Affect- Critical Inquiries into Processes of Othering, Racialization and Non-belonging with Professor Nirmal Puwar, Associate Professor Carla Ramirez and me. As Nirmal Puwar (2004) reminds us in her seminal book, Space Invaders; “Social spaces are not blank and open for any body to occupy. Over time, through processes of historical sedimentation, certain types of bodies are designated as being the “natural” occupants of specific spaces…. Some bodies have the right to belong in certain locations, while others are marked out as trespassers who are in accordance with how both spaces and bodies are imagined, politically, historically and conceptually circumscribed as being “out of place.” (p. 51) In this course we wish to delve into how some bodies, groups, positions and spaces are marked as othered and how these processes and demarcations are intwined with racialization, affect and embodied knowledge making. We will examine: 1. How it is possible to understand and conceptualize processes of othering, racialization and non-belonging as entangled with how spaces, bodies and affects (are allowed to) come into being? 2. How it is possible to investigate and interrograte these processes methodologically? Do we need different forms of methods, sensibilities and approaches to grasp the often ephemeral, affective, embodied and spatialized processes of othering and racialization? The course takes place at DPU, campus Emdrup, April 4 and 5. Please also book April 3 as we will have an open research seminar with Nirmal Puwar, Sanjay Sharma and Carla Ramirez (more information will follow soon). Have a look at the course description below 👇

In this recent interview, I had the opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of Digital Humanities. We explored how cutting-edge technologies, including Machine Learning, are revolutionizing humanities scholarship and discussed the unique challenges we face in integrating these innovations into scholarly workflows. We also took a deep dive into the findings of the ALLEA report, ‘Recognising Digital Scholarly Outputs in the Humanities’. The report advocates for the recognition and appreciation of digital scholarly work, a crucial step in advancing our field. A big thank you to everyone involved in the conversation!
