KEY POINTS: Dumbfounded: (1) Trump excels among evangelicals (who seek to outlaw abortion, and intertwine Church & State) — and the uneducated; (2) Trump’s weakest performance was in the parts of Iowa that more closely resemble the rest of the country, with fewer White evangelical Christians, fewer farmers and more people living in cities with higher education and more income. KEY EXCERPT: Education proved to be a particularly strong divider between where Trump did best and worst. The gap in support for Trump widened between regions with more or less education. FUN FACT: In 2016, Trump got 29% of the vote in the parts of the state with the lowest levels of college education and 22% in the counties with the highest levels.

As we reflect on Juneteenth, it’s essential to recognize the profound impact of emancipation on family unity and protection. For the formerly enslaved, freedom meant the ability to protect themselves and their families through the rule of law and to seek remedies for disputes previously denied to them. The ability to keep families together was a monumental shift. No longer would children and spouses be torn apart and sold, a practice that had catastrophic multi-generational consequences. Emancipation provided the opportunity for families to remain intact, thrive, and seek justice and protection under the law. While Juneteenth did not immediately grant citizenship to the formerly enslaved, it symbolized the beginning of their journey toward full civil rights and recognition under the Constitution. Family is the cornerstone of our communities. On this Juneteenth, let’s honor the strength and resilience of those who fought for their freedom and the ability to safeguard their families. Happy Juneteenth! I’m proud of my country for ending slavery and I’m glad we have a holiday to celebrate it. I believe there’s nothing more American and freedom loving than ending slavery. Sometimes I talk about wealth inequality in the US. Both the extreme nature of it (a few extremely rich people hold more wealth than most other people combined) and how it relates to race. Currently the median wealth of black families ($24,520) is about one-tenth that of white families ($250,400). I WISH I could believe that everything is currently fair and equal and there simply is no explanation for that, but we know that can’t be true (unless you believe that having darker skin makes you less likely to be wealthy, which is racism). When you zoom out a bit, it’s easy to see slavery, and especially segregation weren’t that long ago. To break down these dates a bit: 1619: Arrival of enslaved Africans to Virginia 1865: Freeing of the last southern slaves in Texas (Juneteenth) and ratification of the 13th Amendment 1964: Passage of the civil rights act outlawing segregation While I’m immensely proud of my country for the progress we have made I also hope for an even brighter future where looking up statistics based on skin color produce nothing but statistically insignificant results. Today is #Juneteenth, an annual event celebrating the end of chattel slavery in the United States in commemorating the issuance of General Order No. 3 (which included the line "all slaves are free") in Galveston, Texas on 19 June 1865. In 2021, Juneteenth was declared a federal holiday and is also celebrated outside of the United States. Over the years, a number of myths concerning Juneteenth have developed which are repeated annually as part of the celebration's history. Among these is that General Order No. 3 ended slavery in the United States on 19 June 1865. Slavery was not abolished in the US until 6 December 1865 through the ratification of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, and so General Order No. 3 did not end slavery, it only made clear that the Emancipation Proclamation of 1 January 1863, freeing slaves in the confederate states, would be enforced. General Order No. 3 did not free slaves in the border states of Kentucky and Delaware or anywhere exempted by the Emancipation Proclamation. It did, however, proclaim freedom for the large slave population in Texas, and six months later, on 1 January 1866 (the three-year anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation), the freed people of Texas celebrated the event as "Freedom Day", and 19 June 1866 became the first observance of what would become Juneteenth – a combination of "June" and "nineteenth." From Texas, 19 June came to be celebrated annually in other states up through the early 20th century when observances declined, owing to social and political pressures, but were renewed even before the event became associated with the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Texas declared 19 June a state holiday in 1980, and other states, though not all, later followed suit until the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act was passed in June 2021, signed by President Joe Biden, making the event a federal holiday to be observed by all states. The ACLU is running what may possibly be one of the most deceptive and dishonest ads I’ve ever seen. The ad says that the ACLU is fighting for the rights of everyone, saying, “We the people means all of us, from sea to shining sea.” Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the ACLU: ·      Fight against women’s right to privacy in bathrooms and locker rooms. ·      Fight against women’s rights to fair competition in athletics. ·      Fight against the rights of parents to know what is being taught in public schools and to protect their children from racist CRT and LGBT indoctrination. ·      Fight against the rights of psychologists, doctors, nurses, artists, bakers, florists, adoption agencies, private pharmacies, wedding venues, and business owners who are just trying to live out the “free exercise” of their religion, which the First Amendment guarantees! In my humble opinion, the ACLU is one of the most anti-First Amendment organizations in America! #Juneteenth (observed annually on June 19th) commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, and serves as a day of celebration and advocacy towards racial justice and equality. Here are a things to consider about this day. 1. With hindsite anyone can be wiser! We can condemn slavery for the evil it was but can we also, years later, adjust our minds to look with inquisitive eyes and see if we #learn anything from that period that would help us be better human beings. 2. While we continue the fight towards completely ending racial injustice, can we also #examin ourselves and see if we have traces of racial prejudices for certain groups of people at the detriment of others? How do we also deal with our hearts in this regard! 3. The system might not offer a level ground for us but with the internet, we can now expand our business to #other parts of the world that give us level playing fields! There are still lots of virgin territories to invest in outside of the USA. 4. Shall we forever allow the pain of our forefathers to be passed on to our children breeding great dislike for others or shall we, use history to #equip them to thrive on an uneven plain! 5. With certain things still stacked against the black race, how do we #reach out to those, in our communities, who have bucked under the weight and have gone into drugs or a life of crime! Have we forgotten about them as we each persue our own success? We can turn ashes into beauty! Happy #Juneteeth

Braver Angels, the org I work for as CTO, is the nation's largest grassroots alliance of political Reds, Blues, and "Others" working across our political differences to reduce the toxicity of US politics, learning how to disagree better so that we can achieve more common ground and common sense solutions at both the local and national level. The convention is like a big tent revival for American Hope, and a place for healing, renewed optimism, and concrete hooks into skills and a community of fellow patriots of all political viewpoints looking to restore America's promise as a place where political disagreement is a healthy part of our self-governance, and not a source of hostility that tears communities apart. I'm calling on Reds and Libertarians specifically because we need more of you in the mix. I should have edited this video. It's long. There is an awkward pause. And another one. I'm not as good with my words here. That's okay. I'm talking about race. And that's uncomfortable. I grew up in Idaho. Everyone looked like me. I looked like everybody. We didn't talk about diversity or race. Because why would we? If we did, I don't recall any champions for justice. I had a LOT to learn. Like this: while we celebrate Juneteenth, the 13th amendment abolished slavery in 1862. By design, it took 2 ½ years for news to reach the last slaves in Galveston, Texas. On June 19th, 1865.  Not even justice was justly delivered. The sacrifice and suffering originating from American slavery is a stain on our history. It has been replaced with systemic, structural racism that persists. Especially in real estate. We can make a difference here. The future is ours to advance a more just and equitable future. It’s one thing to reflect and learn. It’s another to act. It's the work of individuals and business leaders to insist on change, then make it. It's my work.
