Yesterday I delivered a keynote and workshop to over 100 of Inland Revenue's leaders in Ōtautahi Christchurch. Our theme was 'Moments of Choice'. Our moments of choice are in front of us every single moment. The energy in the room around this theme was palpable. Here are some of the key ideas we discussed: ✅ The leader you are today comes from the choices you made in the past. ✅ The leader you are in the future comes from the choices you make today and every day from now on. ✅ The results you get in the future come from the leadership you provide today. ✅ Decide what you want to be known for. ✅ Your words shape worlds. Be deliberate with language. ✅ If you think you need confidence, you probably need courage. Confidence is a by-product of courage. ✅ There are two versions of you: Smaller Me, and Bigger Me. Choose Bigger Me every time. ✅ Choose to be the host, not the hero, of your meetings. ✅ Create a culture where people can bravely 'lead from any chair'. ✅ Shape environments of Belonging, Bringing, and Becoming. ✅ Ask more than you tell. ✅ Choose to be a contribution. The concept of a business mastermind can lend itself to a bit of magical thinking, but the key to achieving valuable outcomes is committing to the work that will guarantee results. It's great to get around cool, inspiring people and have enjoyable conversations, but it's really fulfilling to accomplish something for an entire industry. Having big names in the room alone doesn't create big outcomes. It's the alignment with proven business leaders, not their egos, that brings about the desired results.
