Find the earth in your heart! February can be a bit finicky, still winter, but teasing with Spring-ish days, then snowing again the next! Perhaps you look to a groundhog (AKA woodchuck AKA whistle pig AKA land beaver) for hope, or that mid-month V-day to warm your (or your loved one’s) heart. Be mindful—most commercial offerings are bad for the planet. You can be more organic, in keeping with our theme for this year! > Choose a pesticide-free native plant, or at very least, an organic bouquet. > Look for organic, sustainably-produced chocolates or treats. > Go plant-based for your romantic dinner. Walk there if you can. > Skip the plastic and/or plastic-packed trinkets or jewelry unless they are made by a mindful local artist! > Remember, you can’t even recycle anything with foil stamping or glitter. And, BTW... This February brings us a bonus day—that every-fourth-year leap day on the 29th. May we suggest using that day to further “heart” our earth? Today it’s World Earth Day. 🌍 At Yumeko, our planet is always top priority. Based on that belief, we use pure, non-polluting and natural materials for as much as we can. Apart from some labels and tiny details such as rubber bands. We dare to say that over 99% of our used materials is natural. For some of our product groups, that is a truly unique feature. Like our mattresses, for example.   These days, most mattresses are made out of foam. This foam is made out of polyurethane, which is petroleum based. This foam is a cheap and basically indestructible material, but a big polluter and it often contains harmful chemicals. Definitely not something you want to inhale every single night. And don’t even get us started about the environmental impact of all these discarded mattresses, which mostly end up on the waste mountain.   Since the planet is our biggest driving force, we decided to create mattresses that are almost solely made out of natural components: natural latex, biological wool and horse hair. We only used some metal springs for the pocket sprung mattresses, since there is – unfortunately – no natural alternative. All these materials are combined in an incredibly comfortable mattress, which is custom- and handmade in the Netherlands.   That is what we at Yumeko call an environmentally friendly mattress. It might not last up until infinity, but that is exactly the point.    Let’s not make tonight’s good night rest tomorrow’s environmental nightmare.
