The manager of Claims – Health Plans at Samaritan Health Services position posting was quite thorough in its description of job expectations and qualification requirements; however, the posting could be better organized. The section titled "About the job" appears to mostly describe the products and services offered by the company rather than information about the job itself, except for the final bullet point. The Job Summary/Purpose section could also be better structured. If this section were laid out in bullet points rather than paragraphs, the information would appear more organized and present the job duties to potential candidates more clearly. The Department Description section is also not well structured. This section is merely a copy and paste of the "About the job" section without bullet points. Based upon the title of this section I would expect to learn something about the internal organizational structure rather than the products that are offered. The EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS and KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES sections are very well structured. Potential candidates can easily identify the requirements set forth by the poster to qualify for the position. From a potential candidate's perspective, it would have been beneficial to have the entirety of the posting structured in this manner. Having clear job expectations and qualifications outlined in the job description helps potential candidates determine if they have the skills and experience to apply for the position.

Physician attitudes toward union membership: In this survey of 1000 employed physicians, almost half said they were either likely or extremely likely to join a union if the opportunity arises. (Another fourth were neutral on the question.) I find this remarkable in the US context, with it's comparatively weak labor movement. But in a setting where independent practice is steadily going away, unions might just turn out to be the right solution to protect doctors' #professionalism from corporate threats. #unions #ethicalhealthcare #hippocraticcapitalism

What's the ONE THING we can change about the U.S. healthcare system, such that be doing it everything else will be better? There are so many problems to fix, it's difficult to decide where to start? Just to name a few, we have issues of: ⏺ Patient accessibility ⏺ Insurance company profiteering ⏺ Price transparency ⏺ Administrative burdens (e.g. licenses, certifications, EHRs) ⏺ Physician shortage IMHO, there's a clear #1. Physician burnout. Think about it. Imagine if we took care of our physicians. Arguably our country's most highly trained and valuable asset (without our health what do we have?). What if we physicians were aligned. Energized. Working in our zone of genius. What could we accomplish? I'll tell you what we could do. Patient accessibility issues would disappear because we wouldn't have 60% of medical students considering non-clinical jobs and many current physicians looking for side gigs. We could band together, with new found energy, and create an ecosystem of direct pay, separate from insurance companies. Transparent fair pricing for patients. Pay commensurate with our services. Design our own or only utilize the best in class tech solutions that improved the patient/physician relationship. Create A+ operational teams to manage the administrative burdens. Just imagine. This is my BHAG (for the Jim Collins's fans in the room). ▶Improving physician burnout. ▶Recruiting a critical mass of physicians to join our team. ▶Making a dent in our broken healthcare system.
