In our youth media program #TeentigerTV (formerly Team Hercules Youth, Roar1st) at WPAA-TV and Community Media Center, young people ages 15 to 21 explore media skills from news literacy to producing, shooting, and editing video. But our goals are broader. We aim to enable the discovery of self and community. As such, we attempt to support the develop of their creative and critical voices in a collaborative environment. Success is media products with layers of moving with images: literally & figuratively. Ben Negron's first video produced in the summer of 2021, 'When I Speak Freely' uses his 'Place Yourself in History' Project image, his interest and skill in rap music and lessons learned from reading the introduction to Dare to Speak by Suzanne Nossel of PEN America to express challenges he encounters expressing himself and communication with others. The video is simple but the message is next level. Check out this excerpt and then try to convince me that community media is not relevant. Our existence is our relevance. I spent the last year understanding the vitality of clear problem and objective statements, good design and implementation for success stories in policy; and evaluating the erstwhile Broadcasting Bill came as a good refresher on the basics. It’s perhaps for the better that one may not see the proposal being implemented. Akanksha and I examined two limited aspects of the proposed Bill, and had a lot of fun putting this together! Do have a read if it interests you, feedback always welcome! Link to article: https://lnkd.in/gNeWxMRJ The Quantum Hub #TechPolicy #BroadcastingBill #RegulatoryDesign

I’ll be happy when… In the 1950s, the average American home was 983 sqft. In 2024, US average home size is 2,415 sqft. Original television sets had 3 channels for viewers to choose from, whereas modern streaming and cable have shattered any concept of not having anything to watch. And the list goes on… In almost every measurable standard, most modern American lives have become cushier and filled with more creature comforts than our ancestors could have imagined. Then why are we not happier? That’s what we are taught, right? If we have more, then we will be happy? Removing the “when” in: “I will be happy when…” is the first step. You can be happy now. Immediately. Instantaneously, once you are aligning your life with your values and not living for “when”. Alignment in life happens as you choose the things that matter most (to you), and prioritize them over the fluff that fills our lives each and every day. Remove that future guilt of “I will be happy when…” and allow yourself to be happy now.
