***Warning: Celebratory Post Below*** While the Portland Lindy Society (PLS) hosts weekly dances and live music for our local community, our flagship event every year is the Portland Lindy Exchange (PDXLX). First hosted in 1999, PDXLX is an entire weekend celebrating the vintage swing music and dances of the 20’s – 50’s, and draws dancers from across the U.S. as well as international swing communities. Looking over the data we collected from PDXLX 2024 last month, two numbers stand out to me: - We increased our event pass sales by 65% from 2023 📈 - 100% of our survey respondents have a desire to return next year 😍 As the Event Director for PDXLX since 2022, I know our event growth is in no small way fueled by our efforts to reflect and learn from each year. Not only do we survey our attendees for feedback, but we also host an internal retrospective process, allowing us to capture lessons learned and build better the following year. Staying open to feedback can certainly be challenging, but like dance, facing the music often yields the best results! Going into a room of pros and "winging it" is a surefire way to fail before you even get started Without playing live and working through the dynamics, a band will never truly tighten up. That's why the pros prepare on huge sound stages, even arenas and stadiums, because when they're on tour, they need to be ready. As the saying goes, failing to plan is planning to fail, but even with a plan, continuous practice is essential for mastering anything. We think the way we do pricing and scheduling makes us pretty unique. At fp Music Academy you are in control of how much you pay and when. Pricing: Your first meeting is completely free, followed by a one-time enrollment fee. After that, you will choose from our list of teachers to begin working with. Each teacher has a different rate for their service. Lesson rates are based on half-hour increments. Placing at least four lessons at a time will get you a 10% discount. Scheduling: Ordering lessons is simple and allows for flexibility. Together, we schedule lessons individually at the time of order. Ordered lessons have a 40 day expiration date, and rescheduling lessons within the 40 days results in no charge or penalty. Once you’ve reached the last lesson you ordered, simply order another set.
