The off-season at a private club doesn't have to be a period of stagnation and disengagement. By providing a range of options to cater to various member interests, private clubs can foster a sense of community, promote overall well-being, and ensure continued enjoyment and engagement for all members. In this article, we will offer five effective ways club managers can keep members engaged and fight off those winter blues. https://lnkd.in/dD4d57PV #clubmanagement #privateclubs #memberengagement

Our Respect & Reward Scheme continues, with our first Rewards Draw scheduled for 6th December with Northumberland Football Association partners Collingwood. All teams who have scored 100% Positive, and all referees who have taken part in the project upto that point, will be in with a chance to win some early Christmas gifts! With such a high focus on poor behaviour in football, from both within the game and the media, it's important to recognise the VAST majority involved in grassroots football are brilliant people and are the reason why millions play, referee, and volunteer in grassroots football every week. The data provides some valuable context at how low a percentage do behave poorly. However, as team numbers have increased to over 2,000 in our region for the first time ever, an increase of 551 from from 2015/16, that 2% that lets football down becomes a bigger number, and unfortunately it becomes easier to be projected as representative of all of football. Through this project, helping to recognise and promote positive behaviour, matched with our FA Discipline procedures to sanction behaviour that breaches FA Rules, we hope to reduce the percentage of poor behaviour even further. We also have new plans to grow Respect & Reward further in the New Year.

Earlier this week Rob Scotland sat down with former Celtic, Blackburn and Scotland international Charles Mulgrew. Part of our week long webinar series, to help educate our grassroots football community about the use of video in training and matches. A couple of key highlights: 1. Applying professional playing principles within grassroots football works! As long as you keep feedback short, simple and digestible. 2. Young players love learning these principles especially when it is reinforced through video. 3. Results are irrelevant. As long as the players are enjoying themselves and can realise their development on the pitch, that is the goal. Positive results are a by-product of the learning process and enjoyable environment! What really struck me is Charlie's passion for grassroots football and the amount of enjoyment he gets out of coaching at this level. As he will no doubt step into a 1st Team Manager role in the near future, I'm sure he will apply all he's learnt from the grass in Lenzie to the professional game. Here is the webinar in full: go.veo.co/day-3

Lessons from the Non-League. How do you transform a football club off the field in just 18 months? Club Director Harry Hugo is making big changes at Farnham Town Football Club. "It's a business, rather than just a football club... we are trying to build an entertainment brand that plays football twice a week." 🏟️ Infrastructure changes, such as the position of the filming gantry, the orientation of stands and viewing areas and additional supporter-focused amenities such as the Mystery Kitchen. 💵 Incremental fan spending targets on merchandise, food and drinks help to increase the revenues needed to make a sustainable football club. 🖥️ Placing high importance on social media to drive whole week-long engagement and interest. https://lnkd.in/d2npkgGS Applause to Mads Kikkenborg for talking about his first experiences abroad. A lot of his colleagues experience these challenges at an even earlier age (16-20). Neither the players nor their parents are aware of the social challenges that will hit them, when they close their apartment door after training every day. It will hit hard. My hope is that stakeholders (agents, club selling, club buying) in the football industry will soon start to support the players at a personal level off the pitch. It will be good for both performance and the mental health of the human being. Stress factors on the pitch (are inevitable and a part of the game): Significantly higher sporting level. Tougher competition from fellow players. A new locker room without a group of friends. High expectations from the buying club, fans, family, friends, agent. A lot of new routines in relation to matchdays and training. Stress factors off the pitch (are just as many but can be handled by support): Many hours alone - not freedom but for many an "enemy". Lack of structure in the new everyday life. Doubts, loneliness, dissatisfaction. “100” practical things to solve. New language and culture. Integration of a partner and children. A lot of people ask me why the club selling a player should invest in player support? Well, the club selling a player will raise their possibility to get their performance bonusses. And if a club has a good track record (their players are successful on the pitch) it will make the club able to ask higher transfer prices in general. Please remember there is a human being behind every athlete🙏

Who are you when you are at your best? It is a simple but profound question. Often we are at our best when we are playing sport. We demonstrate self control, determination, selflessness, team work, good communication skills, clear decision making under pressure. Imagine if we could apply these attributes to the things in life that actually matter more than sport, like education, vocation, our relationships, and our mental health. 🧠 The fact is, that we can learn to be this consistent person, especially if our sporting clubs decrease the emphasis on talent and winning, and increase the focus on values, character growth, leadership, community, inclusion and fun. SALT exists to help clubs change their focus. The irony is that clubs who do this end up winning more often and producing better players!
