Shipping companies will look for new routes to avoid political hot zones like the red sea, low water levels in the panama canals, and divert cargo resulting in higher costs, most notably insurance, fuel, and security will be significantly marked increases. It is estimated that these diversions and increased operational needs can cost a ship owner as much as $ 2 M for a round trip.
