The pathway to ultrapure feedwater for #electrolysis to generate #hydrogen depends on the starting point.
From seawater, desalination followed by solids filtration and purification... the full process is required.
From river water, solids filtration, then purification. From tap-water, a simplified purification process is OK.
But, don't forget... the water recirculation in the PEM electrolyser circuit or lye recirculation in the alkaline electrolyser will be a much higher flow than the feedwater topup and this ALSO requires purification.
And then there may be additional cooling water requirements - if evaporative cooling has been selected in preference to air cooling.
Oh... and by the way... want to see what happens when it goes wrong? Boom.. roof-off NANE (Need Another New Electrolyser) situation. It pays to pay attention to water and lye management.
I will be covering all of the above in the Ultrapure Water for Electrolysis course with World Hydrogen Leaders on Thursday 18th Jan. Join us??
