In the latest podcast from FRC, Kate O’Neill, the FRC’s Director of Stakeholder Engagement and Corporate Affairs was joined by Maureen Beresford, Acting Head of Corporate Governance and Stewardship, to discuss the changes to the UK Corporate Governance Code that are coming into effect at the beginning of 2025 and the impact on the corporate governance landscape.
They emphasise the importance of outcomes-based reporting, encouraging companies to provide meaningful insights rather than just ticking boxes. The "comply or explain" framework allows flexibility for companies to tailor their governance reporting to their specific strategies and risks. The FRC plans to support companies through additional resources, including podcasts and webinars, to help them navigate the new code. They stress the need for companies to identify material risks and opportunities, showcasing best practices in governance reporting. Overall, the podcast aims to prepare companies for the first reporting cycle under the new governance code.
