Our other favorite attitude of science is philosophical doubt, which asks us to never stop asking questions, and always question what we have learned. This is exactly what we tell our students! As you're learning, if something doesn't seem right, if you disagree, if you have questions, ask them. Raise your concerns. Bring your ideas. THAT critical thinking is what makes great behavior analysts! #CriticalThinking #AlwaysAskQuestions #QuestioningIsGood #Grow

As the world becomes increasingly digitized, the amount of information we receive on a daily basis has skyrocketed. But how much of it can we trust? This is where critical thinking comes in. It's always been an essential skill, but now more than ever, it's crucial. With so much unfiltered information out there, we need to rely on our cognitive abilities to separate fact from fiction. Don't underestimate the power of critical thinking - it could be the difference between being misinformed or well-informed. #criticalthinking

Just completed the 'Organizational Analysis' course offered by Stanford Online and authorized by Stanford University! One of the most interesting aspects of this course was exploring different theories of how organizations function, particularly the contrast between rational system models and natural system models. It was eye-opening to see how organizations are influenced not only by their formal structures but also by informal networks and cultures. Have you also come across interesting organizational theories? Let's discuss! #OrganizationalAnalysis #LifelongLearning #StanfordOnline #ProfessionalGrowth #LearningJourney

Wednesday Thought to Ponder: Confirmation Bias How often are we flawed humans prone to ignore information, or even empirical data which conflicts with our previously established opinions? In the workplace, we might be emotionally convinced one technique is superior to all others, or we are quick to embrace behaviors in peers aligned with our steadfast perspective of them while silmutaneously labeling conflicting information as anomalies to be discarded. Dr. W.Edwards Deming shared his System of Profound Knowledge with the world many years ago. It contains 4 major elements (good homework assignment to research), not the least of which was his Theory of Knowledge. Recognize KNOWLEDGE and INFORMATION are not synonymous! Consider this question he posed… How do you know, that what you think you know is really so? What research beyond gut metrics and stubborn biases support your conclusions? How many business decisions are made with something less than scientifically captured KNOWLEDGE, or stem from our biases of the situation? Are we even open to the idea we are not fully empowered to make better decisions because our Knowledge discovery process might be flawed? Just something to ponder today. #Deming #theoryofknowledge #respectforpeople #businessculture

SPEAKER ANNOUNCEMENT #10 Our brains really are working harder than ever before. Information scientists have quantified that we are all taking in five times more information each day than we did in 1986, that’s about the equivalent of 175 newspapers. And the current pace of change is at least ten times quicker than in the nineteenth to twentieth centuries. Brooke Martin will explore how, with all this information coming at us, we’re all navigating an exponential flow of information with linear organic brains, and how neurodivergent thinkers are surprisingly well adapted to provide leadership in modern times (and a hidden advantage for organisations navigating change). Understanding the Spectrum: #Information, #Knowledge and #Wisdom In today's data-driven world, distinguishing between information, knowledge, and wisdom is crucial for personal and professional growth. #Information is raw data, facts, and figures without context. It answers the "who," "what," and "when." #Knowledge, on the other hand, is the synthesis of information through experience and understanding. It answers the "how" and allows us to draw connections. #Wisdom transcends knowledge; it’s the ability to apply knowledge judiciously and ethically in real-world situations. Wisdom involves insight and foresight, enabling one to make decisions that not only benefit oneself but also consider the broader impact on others and society. To evolve from information to wisdom, start by actively engaging with the data you encounter. Seek context and relevance—ask questions, connect dots, and challenge assumptions. Reflect on your experiences and learn from them. This reflective practice cultivates deeper insights, transforming knowledge into wisdom. In essence, the journey from information to wisdom involves curiosity, critical thinking, and ethical consideration, allowing us to navigate complex challenges with clarity and purpose. #information #knowledge #wisdom #understanding #concept

If you are not familiar with the Dunning-Krueger theory, it goes like this: "A cognitive bias in which people wrongly overestimate their knowledge or ability in a specific area." When learning anything, it's often the case that we're immediately confronted with how little we know about the thing we're trying to learn. This visual represents that journey. From not knowing, to not knowing even more, to becoming a specialist.
