Professional Mixologist & Creative Specialist | Passionate about Elevating Experiences Through Art and Flavor
The Martini is a classic cocktail with a simple yet elegant history. It is believed to have originated in the late 19th century, with its exact origins often debated. One popular theory suggests that it was first made in the United States, while another suggests it originated in Europe. The classic Martini traditionally consists of gin and dry vermouth, typically garnished with a lemon twist or olive. Over time, the Martini has undergone various modifications and adaptations, reflecting changes in taste and trends in mixology. Some of the notable modifications include:Vodka Martini: Substituting vodka for gin became popular during the latter half of the 20th century, creating the famous "Vodka Martini" or "Vodkatini. "Dirty Martini: This variation includes a splash of olive brine, giving the cocktail a slightly salty and savory flavor. Gibson: The Gibson is similar to a classic Martini but is garnished with a cocktail onion instead of a lemon twist or olive. Martinez: Often considered a precursor to the modern Martini, the Martinez features gin, sweet vermouth, maraschino liqueur, and orange bitters. Appletini: This modern variation adds apple-flavored liqueur to the traditional Martini ingredients, resulting in a sweeter and fruitier cocktail. Cosmopolitan: While not a traditional Martini, the Cosmopolitan shares some similarities and has gained popularity as a vodka-based cocktail with cranberry juice and citrus flavors. These modifications demonstrate the versatility of the Martini as a base for experimentation and creativity in mixology, while the classic recipe remains a timeless favorite among cocktail enthusiasts.

Are Coffee Cocktails Going To Take The World by Storm? As part of our ongoing trend analysis, we delve into global markets to spot emerging trends and evaluate their potential impact on the UK scene. This year in the USA, coffee is taking centre stage in cocktails, and we're not just talking about your classic Espresso Martinis. According to recent Backbar insights, over half of the USA's top 50 bars feature coffee-infused cocktails on their menus, with a notable shift away from the traditional Espresso Martini - https://lnkd.in/drEE2tam Moreover, the global surge in coffee liqueur sales signals a significant trend, with projections indicating exponential growth over the next six years. This surge isn't surprising considering the increasingly complex and versatile flavour profiles of coffee, thanks to a wide array of coffee bean variations. Additionally, with the rising popularity of functional drinks, the caffeine boost in coffee cocktails adds another layer of appeal. Non-alcoholic coffee cocktails also hold promise, offering the caffeine buzz without the alcohol content. On the cocktail front Zamora Company's Licor 43 Carajillo Cocktail has already become a sensation in several states, hinting at the broader potential for this trend - https://lnkd.in/eDpiyaKr While trends don't always translate seamlessly across borders, the tendency for drink trends to globalize across the Western world suggests we can anticipate a wave of coffee cocktail variations hitting top bars in the UK over the next 12 months. #CoffeeCocktails #drinksindustry #UKHospitality

📢 Publicaciones Alimarket, S.A. has published a new report that pictures #vermouth as the aperitif that “is back on trend" and recognises PERUCCHI 1876 as one of the main brands in the Spanish market. As explained in the article, vermouth "could be the drink of the year in 2024 due to its versatility and adaptability to current trends of responsible consumption and low alcohol content”. Besides, "it combines traditional craftsmanship with innovation, providing a wide variety of flavours for cocktail lovers and also for those who choose to drink it on its own". The numbers speak for themselves: the Spanish market reached 20.5 million litres in the first eleven months of 2023, with a value of around 95.4 million euros, reflecting a 7.5% increase in value compared to the previous year. This is confirmed in a statement by our CEO Jean-Noël Reynaud: "Especially in the last two years, we have seen a boom in vermouth consumption, particularly in the premium segment of the market”. In this sense, the report Market Trends in the Hospitality Industry, produced by the consultancy NIQ, also highlights this trend. According to its data, 46% of Spaniards prefer to drink two premium drinks, compared to 26% who opt for three of average quality. These numbers, compared with those of other European countries, place Spain in first place among those who prefer premium drinks. For all these reasons, at Magellan & Cheers, we remain committed to promoting and supporting exceptional brands such as PERUCCHI 1876, which captures the essence and excellence of Spanish and Catalan vermouth and is part of our common heritage. #MagellanCheers #Vermouth

Campari's bold move: Introducing baijiu to the world via cocktails! Campari’s latest move is a notable shift. Their collaboration with Wuliangye to craft the "Wugroni" signals a strategic push to bring China’s baijiu into the international limelight through cocktails. My thoughts: 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆: Just like tequila’s global rise, integrating baijiu into familiar cocktail formats is a clever way to introduce it to Western markets. 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: This approach aligns with the trend of cross-cultural beverages. 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹: Could baijiu be the next big thing in global spirits? Time will tell. If Campari can make baijiu cocktails mainstream, we might just see the next margarita craze. Watch this space! Shaking Up the Cocktail Game with a Dash of Pesto Ever heard of a Pesto Martini? Yes, you read it right – pesto, like the green stuff you slather on pasta. Milan's Moebius Milano is stirring not just drinks but conversations with this peculiar concoction. Now, I'm all for innovation in our glasses, but this makes me pause. Pesto belongs on my plate, not in my vodka. Yet, there's wisdom in wackiness. "It's about crafting a unique experience," they say. And isn't that what we strive for in every facet of life, especially when sipping on something spirited? This zesty twist speaks volumes about bold creativity – something we cherish deeply at Supergay Spirits. We may not mix pesto in our cocktails, but we're all about stirring the pot with uniqueness and flair. Dive into the world of unusual mixology with the full martini rundown: [Link to the article] #CocktailInnovation #PestoMartini #SupergaySpirits #UniqueExperienceshttps://lnkd.in/efcGVD6a the world in 10 Martinis - The Spirits Business

Infused and co-fermented coffees are a contentious topic. While some welcome their compellingly complex flavours, others insist they mask a coffee's innate characteristics, causing more harm than good. In late 2023, the Specialty Coffee Association updated the rules and regulations for the World Barista Championship. In a surprising move, participants can use infused and co-fermented coffees in their routines – so long as additional ingredients are included before the “green coffee stage” (as per the SCA’s wording). This decision has further divided the industry. Some look forward to seeing competitors showcase these innovative processing methods, but others believe infused and co-fermented coffees have no place on such a prestigious platform. Regardless of opinion, how can we expect this rule change to impact the competition, and in turn, the wider industry? In today’s article, Rodolfo Campos Zanin speaks to Emerson Nascimento, barista and World Coffee Championships competitor, and Anja Rahn, coffee researcher and founder of Dr. Kôfē, to learn more. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dzTs5Dnm #PerfectDailyGrind #CoffeeProcessing #WorldBaristaChampionship Photo by: Specialty Coffee Association
