Finally, our paper on GaAs-based lasers on 300 mm silicon wafer got published in Nature! A big shout-out to my former colleagues at imec for this achievement. We show in this work that electrically pumped GaAs laser diodes can be monolithically grown on 300 mm silicon wafers and be fully processed in a CMOS line. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 ‣ PSO-optimized waveguide crossings achieve insertion loss of just 0.190 dB, outperforming previous designs. ‣ Crosstalk remains low at -30.84 dB, essential for maintaining signal integrity in complex photonic circuits. ‣ Reflection is reduced to -26.15 dB, a key factor for enhancing performance in broadband applications.
