Important words from our CEO Jochen Hanebeck.
From my point of there are two main statements:
1. We must support the Europe we are living in as it is the foundation for a prosperous future.
2. There are no easy answer for complex questions.

Europe is at a crossroads. Next week, we will elect a new European Parliament. It is in our own hands: Will we allow ourselves to be divided by populism and extremism? Or will we stand together as democrats to address our issues and continue to be a reliable player on the world stage?
For me, the answer is clear. Crude ideas of isolationism and shutting off our continent put the progress we have made over many decades at stake. Openness, tolerance, and respect – these are the values that made Europe successful. Our diversity is our advantage. Together, we are stronger.
I want this continent to remain a great place to live for our children and generations to come. In peace, freedom, and prosperity. That's why I am going to vote, and I encourage you to do the same. Every vote counts!

It is our responsibility for our democracy.
I share that great video-clip-reminder with you, because I am convinced that it is our duty to participate in the democratic process - whenever we can and whenever we are asked to. ✏️👋🏻
Our great-grandparents, grandparents and parents paved the way for a free Europe in which we, the people, can decide.
This heritage must be valued and respected by us all. 👵🏼👴🏽🫱🏻🫲🏼

Democracy should never be taken for granted. It is a collective achievement – and it is a collective responsibility in which we all have a role. ⭐️
If we don't participate, we don’t get to shape the future; but beyond that, European Parliamentary democracy loses its strength and its values lose meaning. ❌

The 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺, also known as 𝗢𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗝𝗼𝘆, is a piece of instrumental music adapted from the prelude of the final movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony composed in 1823, originally set to words adapted from Friedrich Schiller's 1785 poem "Ode to Joy".
In 1972, the Council of Europe adopted it as an anthem to represent Europe, and later in 1985 it was also adopted by the European Union.
Its purpose is to honour shared European values.
The EU describes it as expressing the ideals of
🔘 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺,
🔘 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 and
🔘 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆.
And it sounds great in the Industriellenvereinigung ROCK 🤘🏻version!

I can’t possibly meet every single together.eu volunteer.
But sometimes I wished that my job consisted in only that: meeting, listening to, and guiding all the people that are willing to share the together.eu experience.
The members of together.eu are people who offer their time, ideas and energy to foster democracy in Europe. They are the citizens who volunteer to question an MEP on a video interview (coming soon!), raise awareness about voting in schools or share a social media campaign about democracy.
There is always a doubt when we launch a “call to action”. There is always the nagging feeling “no one is going to do that, they are going to laugh at us, we’re asking for too much”. Often it’s not just a feeling, but also scepticism from less enthusiastic colleagues.
And yet, the opposite happens, there are thousands of people ready to grab our latest idea. By the way, have you considered taking part in the current together.eu competition to get to visit the community in another EU country?
Recently, I had the chance to sit down with Pietro, a together.eu volunteer. While he had some questions for me for a university paper, I had as many for him.
His determination struck me. He told me how, after some unsuccessful attempts, his organisation’s project was accepted to be part of the programme of the European Youth Event in Forlì and how at the same time he’s organising a street art and civic education project in Molenbeek.
It was important for me to listen to how he kept trying until he succeeded.
I get a lot of energy from meeting such highly motivated people and it reassures me that we must be doing something right.
Of course, we provide all our volunteers with materials (check out the beautiful new “Resources and downloads” page on together.eu) and more importantly concrete ideas and events all over Europe. But I think that the secret is that we never leave the community alone.
Week in and week out all together.eu members receive prompts on things to do, they are made aware of campaigns they can chip in, they are offered examples of what others are doing all over Europe.
Week in and week out our Liaison offices on the ground contact volunteers and organise initiatives for them.
Week in and week out our civil society team is in touch with organisations with information and calls to action that speak to them.
Believe me, I know that we still have a HUGE margin of improvement in how we organise our community, but I think that our strength lies in the fact that, even if we can’t meet everyone of them, we don’t leave anyone alone. It’s difficult and messy, but so is an open and democratic society.
It continues in the comments because I have so much to say and clearly I have no idea when to stop.

🇪🇺 On Europe Day, we celebrate the founding values of the European Union, inspired by Europe's humanist heritage, which have guided European states to integrate into a common space based on principles and objectives as a response to the immense tragedy of War and Holocaust. Therefore, the EU stands firm on the values of respect for human rights, fundamental freedoms, democracy, equality, and the rule of law.
⚖ Notably, the EU has established human rights as general principles of EU law, as recognised by the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and reflecting the shared constitutional traditions of its Member States.
📜 In its contributions to the preservation and development of these common values, the EU has codified human rights in the European Charter of Fundamental Rights, which has the same legal value as the Treaties. The role of the Charter has been pivotal in the consolidation of fundamental rights within the EU-space, as informed by constitutional jurisprudence, international standards ratified by Member States, and the case law of their highest courts.
✊ On Europe Day, we recall the transformative power of human rights in European history and progress, and call for their effective protection and guarantee in both Member States' and EU's policies and laws. By upholding our common values, we can strengthen our citizenship in the Union and pave the way to a Europe built on dignity, freedom, equality and solidarity.
Happy Europe Day to us!

🌍 Celebrating Our Democratic Heritage: A Call to Vote in the European Parliament Election 🗳️
As we approach the European Parliament Election on June 9th, my personal connection is a pivotal moment in German history: the Hambacher Fest end of May 1832 (I can see Hambach Castle from my window).
During this festival, more than 30.000 men and women and brave speakers gathered to demand democratic rights and the freedom to elect their representatives for a better political and economic situation, despite facing severe oppression. Their very first vision included a confederate Europe and contributed to lay the groundwork for the freedoms we enjoy today.
🔗 The right to vote in a free, secret, and equal manner is not just a privilege—it is a profound responsibility that we carry forward from generations who fought to secure it. This right is the cornerstone of our democracy, governing how we shape our future and uphold the values we cherish.
As we cast our votes, we not only exercise our democratic rights but also honor those who envisioned a unified and democratic Europe. We invite nations that share these values to join us in preserving this precious heritage.
🌟 Let's not take our freedoms for granted. Go out, vote, and choose wisely the future you want to create. Together, we can continue to build a Europe that reflects our deepest commitments to freedom and democracy.

The launch of the 1st Peoples’ Assembly for Europe in Athens by Democratic Odyssey is just around the corner! Kicking off on Friday, 27 September, and running through 29 September, the assembly will feature key events, including the Democracy Festival in Klafthmonos Square, Athens, on 28 September, which is open to the public.
The Democratic Odyssey is a crowdsourced campaign pushing for a Permanent Peoples' Assembly for Europe. It brings together politicians, academics, civil society, and more, all working towards greater citizen participation in shaping Europe’s future. The goal is to build momentum for local assemblies and show the EU the power of citizen-driven initiatives.

All across Europe the far-right wave has surged, flooding the continent's political systems and coursing through her veins like raw alcohol - cleansing to some, corroding to others. European political elites' responses have been mixed, with some rising to the challenge as in Spain, some floundering as in Italy, and some tearing themselves asunder in the process as France's grand old Gaulliste party has done.
Andrés De Miguel deplores the inadequacy of the old continent's response to an old evil, and cogently puts forth an alternative found in East London's political history. Drawing on New Labour's remarkable late 2000s fightback against the British National Party, De Miguel constructs a model for breaking the far-right wave across Europe.
De Miguel presents a local reconnection strategy whose efficiency, adaptability, and simplicity make it a must-read for any opponent of the far-right.
