There have been two interesting reports in recent months, one from researchers in Australia looking at the impact of Community Hubs as essential elements in the support of local communities during Covid, the second recent research from University of Kent identifying importance of volunteering in maintaining social cohesion. It is vital that the volunteering sector is recognised by Government as a core component in supporting communities and that appropriate funding is allocated to help them meet this challenge #communities #CommunityHubs #Volunteering https://lnkd.in/grYRAc3F

Volunteering is not meant to replace employment I have recently seen organizations that, despite having a budget to recruit #employees, invite #volunteers to fill those open vacancies and then diverting the monies to other non-priority areas. Some are perceiving #volunteering as a way of finding cheap or rather free labour which is #unethical, #unacceptable and against the fundamental principle of #volunteerism. As an act of #service, #patriotism and active #citizenship, volunteering deserves the highest form of respect and recognition and not exploitation. The Seven Mills Community Fund is a €30,000 grant scheme designed to support clubs, community groups and societies who are already working hard to make a real difference in Dublin 22. We are proud to introduce the expert panel who will review and select outstanding community initiatives. The panel includes: - Maura Winston, Chief People Officer at Cairn, renowned for her leadership in organisational transformation and commitment to diversity; - Kenneth Egan OLY, Olympian, psychotherapist, and dedicated advocate for community development in Clondalkin; - Aideen Darcy, Project Manager of Home Together and a specialist in fostering inclusive communities; and - Dr. Con Kennedy FIDI, an acclaimed communication designer and academic at TU Dublin, recognised for his extensive creative expertise. Giving for Change programme activities focus on three core areas: 1. Community level: Giving for Change promotes community philanthropy through action research, peer learning, and small grants. It empowers communities to build local assets, agency, and trust, enabling them to organize resources for local priorities. 2. National level: Giving for Change aims to advocate for state and other stakeholders' support in integrating community philanthropy into national development strategies. This involves creating conducive environments for giving and strengthening multi-stakeholder networks and alliances. 3. Global level: Giving for Change actively participates in sector-wide discussions and debates in philanthropy and international development. Its goal is twofold: to influence these sectors and to foster more equitable partnerships.
