It's about time. The ice-cream company’s website shows there are no pistachios — a member of the cashew family — in the frozen dairy product, but rather “pistachio flavoring” that’s defined as a mixture of water, Ethanol, Propylene Glycol, natural and artificial flavor, Yellow 5, and Blue 1, according to the lawsuit. “When consumers purchase pistachio ice cream, they expect pistachios, not a concoction of processed ingredients,” Duncan’s lawsuit reads, noting that competitors such as Haagen-Dazs use real pistachios in their ice cream. "Since October 2022, Cuba has had a Law on Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security, of strategic importance within the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030. The island’s government has defined food production as a matter of national security. The country imports about 80% of the food it consumes, which has become unsustainable due to economic liquidity problems." #foodsovereignty #sustainablefoodsystems #nutritionsecurity #healthjustice #foodasmedicine

Norwegian Directorate of Health Recommends Eating More Seafood Norwegians are being encouraged to eat more seafood by the Directorate of Health. An update on dietary advice was presented by the Directorate of Health earlier this month, and while it’s similar to the old dietary guidelines, the Norwegian Seafood Council says that the advice continues to “advance” the position of seafood. The following dietary advice regarding seafood is listed on the Directorate of Health website: “Choose fish and seafood for dinner two to three times a week and preferably as a side dish. Use beans, lentils and peas as dinner or as a side dish. Fish and seafood, beans, lentils, peas, eggs and clean meat are good sources of several important nutrients. Limit red meat and eat as little processed red and white meat products as possible.” Specifically, the Directorate’s recommended intake of fish is 300-450 grams each week. According to the advice, “at least 200 grams should be fatty fish, such as salmon, trout and mackerel and herring.” The authorities also recommend eating lean fish, such as cod, pollock and haddock. “The quantity applies to ready-to0-eat product,” the advice further explains. “Fish in fish products such as fish cakes, fish balls, fish gratin and fish spreads are also included in the recommendation…seafood such as shellfish and shells can easily be included in a healthy and varied diet, even if it is not included in the quantity recommendation for fish.” “It is pleasing that the authorities are so clear in their recommendation that food from the sea should still be an important part of a healthy and sustainable diet,” commented Christian Chramer, Managing Director of Norway’s Seafood Council.”I can promise that we will do our part to promote the dietary guidelines and inspire Norwegians to choose fish and shellfish even more often for both everyday life and parties.” Article by - Amanda Buckle Expana 1-732-240-5330 link to read in website - https://lnkd.in/ecG_rZ8

As a true pie-loving Wiganer this parliamentary debate, initiated by Richard Holden MP was, of course, going to catch my eye! It not only gives me a good excuse to hunt down a pie later but also to talk about the importance of regional food and drink exports. The UK has a proud history of businesses exporting stunning food and drink products around the world. In 2023, the value of food, feed and drink exports, from the UK, was £24.4bn. A recent Food Manufacture article featured data from product intelligence platform Vypr showing that British brands are growing in popularity in the US, with a perception that UK brands are traditional, high-quality and homely. Only Japan and Italy were ranked higher than the UK when it came to perceived quality of international food and drink. (https://lnkd.in/eFtT-YQa) Geographical indications (GIs) are a mark of quality, recognized around the world. It helps to further boost a product's mark of heritage or tradition. Throughout the debate, parliamentarians spoke of the importance of talking up 'regional cuisine' in order to boost exports, with Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' Minister Zeichner noting that GI products represent around 25% of the UK's food and drink exports by value and are protected through #FTAs. Another key term - traditional specialty guaranteed (TSG) status - is about how a product is made (e.g. following a traditional method) and products must meet a stringent set of criteria, with an aim to guarantee quality. Whether the Comber Early potato, pie and mash from Basildon and Billericay, Staffordshire oatcakes, Cornish pasty or the Bramley apple pie...exporters have a lot to offer the world with regional specialties and geographical indications - and TSG status greatly supports the verification of quality! We have a Food and Drink Special Interest Group at The Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade which provides the space for food and drink exporters, from all over the country, to get together and talk about their products, challenges and opportunities. If you want to find out more, drop me line! Until then, off to find that pie... 🥧
