On March 30, 2023, the Vatican rejected the 15th-century #DiscoveryDoctrine, which aimed to justify the colonial-era seizure of Indigenous lands. Despite this rejection, reparative measures and extensive land returns to #IndigenousPeoples are still needed to address the lasting harm caused by the Doctrine. The ongoing impacts of colonialism and systemic oppression faced by #IndigenousPeoples worldwide underscore the need for continued efforts toward healing and restorative justice. #EverythingBack #Healing #RestorativeJustice #LandBack #CulturalSurvival

We're thrilled to share a series of bilingual videos that delve into an innovative approach for community development called #Monetization— the practice of leveraging annual cashflows into long-term debt to build key infrastructure for communities. In this video, we amplify the voices of Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek, ON as they share their vision for a vibrant community. Their need is clear: a band office, a school and an Elders’ complex to welcome community members back home. With significant upgrades to their local sawmill, they're now able to utilize community-sourced lumber to build much-needed infrastructure. However, the path to progress can be accelerated by utilizing Monetization, which we believe can be a game-changer for Indigenous communities across Canada. FNFA is advocating for the adoption of this model to #ClosetheInfrastructureGap between First Nations communities and the rest of Canada. 🛠️ Imagine the impact if Monetization were piloted across Canada. First Nations communities could achieve critical infrastructure goals more efficiently, fostering growth and stability for future generations. 🎥▶️https://lnkd.in/gueGU6Pi

The Stupidest Tale Of All! https://lnkd.in/embY2TWX Once upon a time, in a land down under, there was a Government who promised to build 1.2 million homes, over five years, or 240,000 per year or 60,000 homes per quarter. And he huffed and he puffed, but despite everything, the best he could manage, at least in the year to March 2024 was 162,600, homes approved, around 77,000 fewer than the Albanese government’s target and the lowest level since March 2013. Dwelling construction has collapsed to at least decade-lows at the same time as population growth has surged by a record 660,000. The only way to solve Australia’s housing shortage is to reduce net overseas migration to historical levels of less than 120,000 per year. Net overseas migration must be lowered below the nation’s ability to build housing and infrastructure. If we did that, we could move from Albo’s fairy tales, to something more realistic, despite the reality that new construction will continue to grind lower, while existing projects are taking ever longer to complete. It is truly a fine mess, created by at least 20 years of bad policy, but Albo is chief fairy on top of the tree. Time for mass policy change. Otherwise, population demand will forever exceed supply. And many ordinary Australians will be left out in the cold. https://lnkd.in/g3P5Nmmb Go to the Walk The World Universe at https://lnkd.in/gFYzZZHe

I find myself contemplating the profound nature of occupation, a reality that is both visible and invisible, physical and psychological. I see around me, in places like Palestine, the harshness of physical occupation – a tangible, oppressive presence that controls lands and lives with an iron fist. It's a world where barriers are not just made of concrete but are also built from fear and loss, where every checkpoint and patrolled street serves as a stark reminder of a freedom that's been repressed. The brutality of this physical occupation is immediate and merciless. It is a story of homes razed, livelihoods shattered, and lives cut short. But beyond the tangible devastation, there lies a subtler, yet equally devastating form of occupation – a psychological siege. This psychological occupation, pervasive in the Arab world and beyond, does not march with boots on the ground but infiltrates silently through screens and speakers. It is the endless stream of foreign ideals and aspirations, funneling through our TVs, social media, and films. It's a seductive yet insidious force, subtly reshaping our desires, molding our perceptions, and warping our cultural values. Here, the brutality is not in physical chains, but in the chains of thought, the slow erosion of indigenous cultures and identities under the relentless tide of ‘Westernization’. It is an invisible aggressor, quietly redefining what we aspire to and how we perceive ourselves and our world. It is not seen as an invasion, but masquerades as a global exchange of culture. Yet, in this exchange, there's a haunting sense that we are parting with pieces of our rich heritage and identity, a relentless stripping away of the essence that makes us who we are. In all its forms, occupation is brutal. Whether it's the physical occupation that scars landscapes and spirits, or the psychological and cultural occupations that warp minds and erode identities, its impact is profound and devastating. It's a force that not only claims territories but also imprisons thoughts, aspirations, and cultural essences. In understanding and confronting these varied forms of occupation, lies the path to reclaiming not just land, but the very soul of societies long besieged.
