B2B Sales Degree Apprentice | Signify (formerly Philips Lighting)

Here are a few things I've learnt while at Signify as a Sales Apprentice: Do's: ·      Do people favours 🤝 : Helping others out helps you build great relationships with colleagues, and the favour will always come back in the future to benefit you. ·      Be honest 💯 : When customers ask a question which you don't understand, be honest and say you do not know instead of potentially telling them the wrong information. Let them know that you dont know but will find out and come back to them ASAP. ·      Get involved in events 🎡 : Company events or Careers Fairs have helped me get to know people in the company which I wouldn't have come across. And it also gets your name out there, and shows you are willing to do external favours for the company. (Also great fun and good experience!) ·      Note down your calls 📒 : Keep notes of your calls so you know where you left off, and also have a conversation starter/way to keep your customer on the phone. Dont's: ·      Don't always wait on others ❌ : For example, if you are waiting for a sheet to be edited, be proactive and find out how to edit the sheet yourself. Eliminate unnecessary waiting time to be more efficient, and also make your colleagues lives easier. ·      Don't shy away from calls 📞 : The more calls you take, the better you'll become on the phone. Also, use this as a chance to take follow up calls for colleagues. The more uncomfortable you feel, the more comfortable you'll become. Also, don't drink loads at the works do so you have a booming head ache the whole next working day. I was told by a friend. Overall, these are the several things I've picked up as a Sales Apprentice after 5 months. I have got much, much more to learn and am looking forward to it. To the experienced sales people out there, please let me know what you think about my Do's and Dont's and drop any more tips in the comments. Would be highly appreciated! #sales #apprentice #salestips #b2bsales #signify

Great advice given to you Finn! I would also say always be yourself so that customers can see and hear the authentic “you” I.e don’t pretend to be someone else and also something I think is personally important and I have maintained in the 22 years I have been with Philips/Signify is to bring a sprinkling of fun to your daily work as again even when you are not face to face with a customer they can feel a big smile through the telephone.

Great learning so far, and your attitude is spot on, Finn. I wonder what different advice you could gather and give through a heading: Top 5 Things to Avoid When… Consider what parts of the role you find most challenging and by doing the research around this, especially through experienced colleagues and mentors, it would make for further valuable learning - for you and for anyone in a customer facing role.

Great insights from your Sales Apprentice experience at Signify! I particularly agree with your point about honesty - transparency is crucial in building trust with customers. My question for you is, have you noticed any specific strategies that have helped you excel in customer interactions? Keep up the great content, I've sent you a connection request!

Great to have you as part of the bigger team. Keep it going as we all learn new things every day.

This is great advice Finn! One thing I learnt from my sales experience was to not let a single tough call affect my entire day. Also, I think we may have the same friend…
