£50,000 EIBF MBA scholarships for engineers and scientists now available at Alliance Manchester Business School Engineers in Business Fellowship (EIBF), the charity that promotes the importance and value of business education for engineers, announced today that AMBS has been added to the list of approved schools for their Sainsbury Management Fellows Scholarships for engineers and scientists. Productivity has been in our vocabulary since the 1700s! Modern day thinking really took place in the 1960s with the first National Productivity Conference, 60 years on, and it is fundamental to our economy, well-being and growth. Therefore, it is fantastic that the Productivity Institute, based at the University of Manchester and with regional hubs across the UK, has launched a new Productivity Policy Unit. With the new Government prioritising economic growth, net zero and better health care as three of its five key missions to face Britain’s challenges in raising living standards and well-being, it is key that the work done in TPI can be easily accessed and used by key stakeholders in policy making. I'm delighted to see TPI's Policy Director, Andy Westwood (also Professor of Public Policy, Government & Business at The University of Manchester), take up the lead on this important development. Yesterday, during Foundation Day at The University of Manchester, Duncan Ivison launched the Manchester 2035 strategy. Where do we want to be in 2035? This is a collective challenge that unites us all, with discussion themes around reimagining our student experience, becoming one University, accelerating our research impact, advancing our social responsibility, and funding a world-class university of the future. Therefore, I'm honoured to be asked to be one of the theme leads for 'Becoming One University' alongside UoM Registrar Patrick Hackett. Our commitment to collaboration and collective success is brilliant. I am optimistic and confident that we can realise our 'one University' mindset together.
Autumn is certainly upon us! After the heavy rain across the country, it is nice to see some sunshine and brighter skies in Manchester. I'm looking forward to attending the launch of Manchester Minds - A University History of Ideas later this afternoon. Our unique John Rylands Library on Deansgate is a great place for the launch. Along with Stuart Jones, Professor of Intellectual History at The University of Manchester, my colleagues, Deputy President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor., Luke Georghiou and our new President and Vice-Chancellor, Duncan Ivison, will be sharing their thoughts and wisdom with guests. Our bicentenary year is a special opportunity for all of us to reflect on the world-changing ideas that have been achieved by a large number of influential academics, thinkers and individuals over the years. Your presence and participation make this reflection even more meaningful. I think it's important to remember that we are the sum of all of these achievements, but like them, we should not be idle or complacent.
