The two types of technological leapfrogging. ‘Stage skipping’ is the first type of leapfrogging. A good example is mobile phones, where the deployed technology infrastructure skips an entire generation, for example, wired land lines or perhaps 2G or 3G, going straight to 4G or 5G. The other type of leapfrogging is ‘path-creating.’ With path-creating, innovative enterprises explore alternative paths of technology development that leverage emerging technologies with new opportunities and business benefits. These two types of leapfrogging typically go hand-in-hand, while from the technology perspective, focus on different architectural domains. #fiorano #cloud #cloudnative #multicloud #apimanagement #apis #digitaltransformation #microservices

Day Thirty/30: Cloud, Edge, and 5G As I wrap up the final day of my 30-day challenge, I would like to reflect on the transformative power of 5G and edge computing. 5G, the fifth generation of mobile networks, is not just about speed, but about capacity and latency. It's a transport mechanism that enhances the capabilities of cloud and edge computing. Edge computing, on the other hand, is a method to meet the performance and low latency requirements of 5G networks. It leverages the computational capacity of edge devices to enhance customer experience and enables businesses to virtualise the cloud beyond the data center. Together, edge computing and 5G are creating opportunities for new products, platforms, and experiences across industries. They enable better data control, faster insights, and continuous operations. In closing, as we continue to embrace these advancements, it's important to remember that your smartphone is (usually) not an edge device, and mobile edge computing is not the same as edge computing. Here's to exploring new horizons and pushing boundaries in technology. #EdgeComputing #5G #CloudComputing #innovation #TechTrends.

Digital is physical! "Digital is electrical. When you are typing, your device is using electricity, when you press send it goes through network, it takes electricity to run network. It's going to end up being stored in cloud, and those data centres use a lot of electricity". Tim Berners Lee. Inventor of World Wide Web. #digitalization #sustainability #internet #web

Make the Internet 4.5 MILLION TIMES FASTER! That's 340 MILLION MBITS PER SECOND! This innovation uses previously untapped wavelength bands, allowing for a broader spectrum of data transmission. Why is faster Internet important? It is a gateway to a more modern world. This technology provides much faster and more reliable connections for applications ranging from streaming to cloud computing. I remember the Internet in the early 2000s when it took 15-20 minutes to download a 3-5 Mbit file... DSL was a revolution... now there's 1 GB/sec strong internet connection in some regions. There have been all kinds of Internet revolutions - some of which are sitting as bought patents in the closets of giant corporations. Internet access is still not a matter of course in the world. Not even here in Germany, where there are still regions without Internet or only with modem speeds. There is still a lot to do! But the good news is that the technology already exists!
