Day 3 was the biggest day yet for the ‘Pyrenees 24’ crew - smashing through the halfway mark and encountering mountain critters along the way… 🦊🐦🦅🐂 - - This 700 km cycle, 6-day fundraising cycle is all for PTSD Resolution - & you can help the team help our Veterans here: https://lnkd.in/dqay67UC 🚴♂️ DAY 3: Saturday 14th September 2024 "The rubber hit the road today. We woke to bright sunshine and frost on the verges. We finished in the dark helped by a clear sky, a bright moon and some very good bike lights. In between we cycled up two substantial cols, and climbed 8,697ft over a distance of 115 km. It was a big day. "Before we reached the high mountains we intruded on a fox skulking along the roadside, startled by the near-silent cyclist. We passed two jays having a very noisy spat, overseen by a hovering buzzard, hopeful for a meal if there was a casualty. "On a descent we navigated around the local cattle, in no mood to move and with their very sharp horns potentially dangerous. And as we broke out into the high country we saw an endless jumble of peaks that disappeared into the far distance. It is remarkable country. It is my belief in life that we have a short time to make a big difference. When we support our community, we build a greater future for everyone. On July 10th, 2024, I will be running 178 km (110 miles) from my home in Vaughan to Base Trenton to raise funds for Veterans and Everyday Heroes (V-EH). For those that hate reading, in this video, Sergeant Gough discusses V-EH and my run for the Cause. V-EH is a Federally Registered Not-For-Profit organization run by veterans and lead by the Founder Sergent Andrew Gough. The organization works to ensure veterans and first responders receive the support they require to achieve and/or maintain mental and physical wellness. This is an unofficial run and a solo operation. I am choosing to run to Base Trenton for the iconic symbolism for our veterans and what it represents to our country. I am not a professional runner, nor do I enjoy running. Enduring the distance is symbolic of our enduring veterans and first responders, who carry out their daily requirements with unfailing perseverance to help the communities in which they serve. I have seen the incredible difference V-EH has made for our veterans and first responders and hope that funds and awareness raised for this run will enable this organization to do even more. Below are a few of the many examples of services and support V-EH provides: ➡️Service dog funding support. To date, nearly $110,000 has been raised for service dogs for veterans and first responders. ➡️Necessities purchases such as groceries, fuel, transportation, medical supplies, and mortgage relief assistance (due to increasing interest rates). ➡️Wellness initiatives such as delivering coffee and other moral items, fitness equipment, fitness activities (including training), and leisure activities. ➡️Purchasing tickets for events to send to veterans and first responders. ➡️Veterans and first responders needing any assistance can submit specific and direct requests through the V-EH website. Event Overview: Stage 1: Tactical Shootout at Washoe County Range/Nevada Firearms Academy Participants will engage in a tactical shootout, featuring close-in and long-distance ranges, governed by a competitive point system. Teams of up to four are encouraged to participate. A highlight of this stage is the crew-served weapons station (M60, M249, PKM) offering an added level of challenge and excitement. Stage 2: Land Navigation & Fishing at Pyramid Lake, NV Participants will tackle a series of land navigation and amphibious tasks leading to their fishing location. Points will be awarded for each catch, culminating in a beach BBQ feast and awards ceremony. Saturday Night Team Dinner: Join us for a special team dinner at La Strada Italian restaurant, located in the El Dorado Casino. Accommodations will be provided at The Row for a comfortable stay. Why Participate? This event offers not only a thrilling experience but also a chance to contribute to a noble cause. All proceeds directly benefit the Retired Investigators Guild's mission to solve cold cases and bring justice to affected families. Just finished some cool integration for a regional nonprofit. They use high end drones to find lost dogs... It's a membership based program. We integrated the membership preregistration mapping software to the military training areas in the region. These special use airspaces can extend to the surface of earth, 100 feet off the ground, or 3,000 to 5,000 feet from the ground. With variable hours of operation. Now.... when a FidoTtacker member signs up for dog rescue... They are alerted that their address may be subject to drone flight restrictions. This level of transparency to the members helps prevent them from being blindsided or having their money invested in a service they may not be able to use 24/7. Plus it helps save the nonprofit transaction fees from issuing a refunds for membership satisfaction. Craziest part is... This was all done in VELO. Not the easiest platform to develop on... Hi as many of you know our moors have been on fire once again, this time in one of the most inaccessible locations. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were on location for 15 days, with over 15 crews from all over West Yorkshire at its peak. 3 Argocats have been rolled, written off or broken down, one of these being the local shoots leaving only one covering the vast area. One Firefighter injured with a broken shoulder. Argocats are great, but not on terrain such as moorland, you really need tracked machines to get crew, equipment and water up to the fire. Once there the Firefighters can do what they do best, otherwise they have to wait for the fire to come to them, losing vast areas of moorland. At its worst the fire was 174 degrees celsius just 70 yards at the back of our house, we were half an hour from being evacuated, potentially losing everything. Three engines and crews were on stand by to protect our house, but luckily the cows had done a good job at keeping the vegetation down, this slowed the fire, but then a change in wind direction set the fire off rapidly towards Deer Hill. With these events happening more frequently (9 Last Year) I want to help get the fire crew the equipment they need. A soft track can carry 10 times the water with much more equipment than an Argo and carry crew safely to the fire.
