🎆 Proper Disposal of Used Consumer Fireworks 🎆 After enjoying a beautiful fireworks display, it’s crucial to dispose of used fireworks safely. Follow these steps to ensure safety for everyone: 1. Soak It: Submerge used fireworks in a bucket of water for at least 15 minutes to make sure they’re completely extinguished. 2. Drain It: After soaking, drain the water onto grass or dirt to avoid flooding. 3. Trash It: Place the soaked and drained fireworks in your regular household trash. Additionally, please be aware that in Michigan, the use of consumer fireworks is only allowed until 11:45 PM. Stay safe and respect your neighbors! #FireSafety #LapeerFireRescue

Happy 4th of July! I hope you enjoy some fireworks—and if you’re putting on your own show at home, I hope you know how to clean up afterwards! Fireworks contain some toxic chemicals, so it’s important to make sure those pollutants don’t stay in the environment. To clean up correctly, use these tips: - Wait to clean up until you’re sure spent fireworks are no longer hot or burning - Wear gloves when you pick up spent fireworks - Soak used, damaged, and misfired fireworks in a bucket of water for at least 15 minutes - Sweep the area to collect dust and debris, then place everything into a plastic bag and seal it - Don’t hose down the area—this will spread toxins into the storm drain, which can pollute the local waterway - Flush the bucket of water in your toilet to ensure the water gets into the municipal sewer system, where it can be filtered and treated Have a fun, safe, and clean holiday! #celebration #independence #cleaning #PublicHealth #fireworks
