Erwin Schrödinger (b. 8/12/1887) Nobel Prize for Physics (1933) – for the formulation of the Schrödinger equation that describes how the quantum state of a physical system changes with time. In 1944, he wrote What Is Life?, which contains a discussion of negentropy and the concept of a complex molecule with the genetic code for living organisms. According to James D. Watson's memoir, Schrödinger's book gave Watson the inspiration to research the gene, which led to the discovery of the DNA double helix structure in 1953. If Pearlman YeC SPIRAL we are seeing light arriving here and now (assume at standard light speed) from all beyond SPIRAL light year radius 'i' from light that departed when the stellar object was distancing past 'i', i years ago. Assume i at minimum value 5,784 to date (predict increase of 1 per annum). So if 17.7k LY distant now we see from when 5.8/17.7 the size (the volume much smaller that even that). So the velocity of the objects about it that we are looking back at, was 1/3 of that presumed if the competing hypothesis SCM-LCDM. I’m currently at ISSI with the CSES and Swarm Investigation of the Generation Mechanisms of Low Latitude Pi2 Waves team. I’m learning lots about ultra-low frequency (ULF) Pi2 waves in the magnetosphere - faster and burstier than the large-scale waves I studied in my PhD, usually but not always related to substorms. On Monday I presented our work using ground observations to get a whole-magnetosphere understanding of the occurrence and generation of the larger-scale (Pc5) waves. All ULF waves are related manifestations of our complex magnetosphere and by combining our knowledge we can build holistic system-wide understanding. We’ve had lots of interesting presentations about how these waves travel throughout the magnetosphere, how ULF waves interact with particles, how they can be observed and what physical processes generate them (plus several talks that remind me how much I have to learn about the ionosphere) I look forward to the team discussions planned later in the week! https://lnkd.in/eRR6Enjm

FLI Colloquium with Ivan Matić: ADP-Ribosylation in DNA repair signaling and aging – blending advanced technologies and fundamental discoveries 💡 Biochemist Dr. Ivan Matić from the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing has spoken on July 23, 2024 at the Leibniz-Institut für Alternsforschung - Fritz-Lipmann-Institut e.V. (FLI) about the latest discoveries and developments of his research group on protein modification ADP-ribosylation. 👉 His research team identified, using the proteomic approach for ADPr, serine-ADPr as a novel histone modification. This seminal finding led to the revolutionary discovery that the HPF1/PARP1 complex is the originator of this novel PTM. This represents a new paradigm for PARP1 signaling.
