INCIDENT | A recent fall of ground incident occurred in an underground coal mine intersection where mining was progressing. Fortunately, mine personnel had been withdrawn from the area for planned maintenance before the fall happened. Roof and skin failure was observed in an unbolted area of the intersection and some hours later it was reported that the fall had progressed throughout the entire intersection in both bolted and unbolted areas. This incident highlights the importance of properly installed and maintained tell tales with continued monitoring for the early detection of strata failure to keep mine personnel safe.
